The aircraft carrier is meant for power projection. We do not need them (at least not yet). But a helicopter carrier with RORO facilities for amphibious Ops may not be a bad idea.

I dont think we need an aircraft carrier. They are mostly for ops and conflicts far away from the countrys mainland. Most of our conflicts are internal or mainland Africa. We need some naval vessels to prevent bunkering. Much smaller, faster vessels should be used to easily intercept bunkerers and militants in the niger delta region.

We should also get UAVs. We need to invest more in our military equipment, weapons, armour, APCs, tanks etc.

....AND SOME PEOPLE IN NIGERIANS ARE STILL CARRYING SMALL BOMBS IN NIGERIA, BOMBING CHURCHES,MARKETS AND OTHER PUBLIC PLACES WITH THE CLAIMS THAT THEY ARE DEFENDING GOD WHOM IS DESCRIBED AS OMNIPOTENT THUS SEEKING TO TAKE US BACK TO THE STONE AGE AND PREHISTORIC TIMES. Listen here MR there will never be a ship that can survive even 2 balistic missiles the only deffense any warship and carrier will have for the next 50 years against any missile attack is radar, anti-missile deffense systems, decoys and flares

As for EMP, I'm no Physicist and the electronic arms on the ship is "CLASSIFIED" but from what I know and watched on TV about EMP, I doubt it. That will fry their electronic systems on board.

An Aircraft Carrier is not in the business to war against other ships, that's why it's a floating base. It carries EVERYTHING and ANYTHING you can imagine - from weaponry to support logistics and machinery, etc . In fact, it was rumored that they can deploy and control UAV's that perform reconnaissance and attack missions. I once heard that they have their own Sat launch defense system, (though just rumors, but hey Google works).


I've had the opportunity to see one of the ships live, and these suckerz are HUGEEE. Yeah, air-to-ship may work, but do you think the 130+ fighter jets are seating idle doing nothing but laughing and smiling? They are susceptible to attacks but not when you have two/three battle ships side-by-side, in fact, don't be surprised that a sub is alert watching it's movement and protecting it under sea.

This is not to talk of other support unit you don't even see, in fact, someone at Pentagon or a remote area is constantly scanning the area for threat and ready to deploy missiles from somewhere just to protect the ship. IMO, while they are susceptible, it's gonna be a HARD BALL TO PLAY, for anyone to attack an aircraft carrier.

Aircraft carriers are mainly for external force projection.

Most modern navies has moved away from large warships and are focusing more on stealth corvettes/frigattes, distroyers and submarines.

A well trained navy with high tech weapon systems can take out an aircraft carriers on any day.

The best naval craft in history with the most effective killing ratio was the U-boat in WW2 the father of modern day submarines. Russia still has the upper hand in this regard.

With recent developements in anti-ship missile systems the US navy will never dictate the high seas anymore.

By the way with an effective industrial, manufacturing base and a increasing chinese military budget china will be om par in 10 years time with US naval forces. The Chinese intercontinental ballistic anti-aircraft missiles already pose a real threat to the US navy.
