For his inability to control his libido, an
octogenarian, Pa Samuel Oladipupo, is not
only cooling off at the Ekiti State Police
Command for allegedly raping a 12-year-
old girl identified as Esther, he will in the
months to come, have a case to answer
over the rape scandal.
According to the state Police Public
Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Victor
Babayemi Olu, while parading the suspect
at the state police command, Iyin Road,
Ado-Ekiti, Oladipupo was alleged to have
committed the crime last Saturday at his
residence located at No. 9 Barracks Road,
near Okesa Police Station, Ado-Ekiti.
But Oladipupo denied the allegation,
stressing that he never had sexual
intercourse with the girl. His statements
were as incoherent as they are
contradictory. On the one hand, he denied
having carnal knowledge of Esther, and on
the other hand, said he was seduced by
the girl, causing him to lose control.
He however confessed to have attempted
to have sex with the victim, an underage
girl, who is definitely much younger than
his supposed grandchildren, with her full
consent. But many have wondered why an
octogenarian contemplated sex with an
underage girl, who is not even yet a
teenager, consenting or not.
The PPRO stated further that the victim
was taken to the Ekiti State Teaching
Hospital, Ado Ekiti, where a series of tests
was conducted on her to ascertain whether
the accused person actually raped her or
not. He disclosed that the command had
contacted members of Ekiti State gender-
based Violence Prohibition Committee to
rehabilitate the victim.
However, while speaking with journalists,
the suspect who is being detained at the
command’s Criminal Investigation
Department (CID), said he was seduced by
the girl before he lost control. Sources
further hinted that the suspect was a
repeat offender, saying that this was not
the first time he had committed such a
crime. That depiction seemed to suggest
that Oladipupo was on a familiar turf with
such acts and allegations.
He explained that he had sent Esther, a JSS
1 student in one of the secondary schools
in the state, to help him buy a phone
airtime card at a nearby shop on the
fateful day and allowed her to go after
Esther had helped to load the card onto
his line.
“To let you know that I never intended to
commit the crime, after she had helped me
load the recharge card on my phone right
in my house, I allowed her to go freely
without making any overture. But later,
Esther resurfaced again and came to tell
me that she was famished and asked me
what kind of food I had at home. I told her
I had only bread and stew and she
followed me inside and ate the food,” he
said. He added that it was in that process
that he was lured into committing the act,
which he said he had not really committed.
But Esther, who countered his position,
denied seducing the old man into having
sex with her. She explained that she was
coming from where she had gone to mend
her school sandal, when Oladipupo, whom
she had earlier helped that day to buy an
airtime card, called her and accused her of
stealing his phone.
“When I told him I didn’t steal his phone,
he then asked me to accompany him to his
sitting room. When we got there (the
sitting room), we found the phone on the
television and he tendered an apology to
me.
“As I was about to go out, baba
(Oladipupo) then grabbed me and pushed
me onto the couch and forcibly had sex
with me. The loud noise I made attracted
one woman, who came to rescue me and
took me to my mother,” she said.
The police spokesman said preliminary
investigations conducted by the police
confirmed that the old man is a serial
rapist. That being the case, it beats the
imagination how the law has spared him.
Those who know Oladipupo suggested that
he has had a history of sexual
waywardness.
However, the PPRO said that the accused
person this time would be charged to court
as soon as the results of the tests
conducted on Esther at EKSUTH are out.
