No Explosive On Ekiti Suspected ‘bomber’---punch by ajayioluwatobi(m): 7:14am On Nov 30, 2012 |
NOVEMBER 30, 2012 BY FEMI MAKINDE, ADO-EKITI. Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, Mr. Sotonye Wakama, has said no explosive device was found on Adedayo Ogungbemile, who was arrested on Wednesday for alleged intention to bomb the state’s Government House. Ogungbemile, a 22-year-old 400-level student of Business Administration at the state university, was arrested in front of the Government House for allegedly trying to detonate material suspected to be an explosive device. However, the police commissioner, while addressing journalists at the command headquarters on Thursday said the suspect was not a suicide bomber. He noted that the suspect, who hails from Ijesa-Isu in the state, was not sounding coherent when he was interrogated. The suspect, he said, would be further examined to know the state of his mind. Wakama stated that the Exxon Mobil branded belt with a timer, found on the suspect was mistaken for a time bomb by those who raised the alarm which led to his arrest. According to him, items recovered from the suspects have been subjected to tests by experts and no explosive material was found in them. Other materials found in his possession were Indian hemp, a purse containing N26,220, driving licence in name of Bode Ogungbemile and army camouflage shorts. Wakama said, “The suspect’s clothes and spectacles as well as the blue-colour belt, had been thoroughly examined by experts at the Explosive Ordinance Department and we reiterate at this point that there is no evidence or reason to suggest the suspect was conveying any explosive device.” The police commissioner added that the suspect would be further investigated because of the charms and other suspicious telephone numbers found at his apartment. When journalists spoke with Ogungbemile, he said he went to the Government House and Bank Road area to have an “overview” of the area. He said he had no intention to bomb the Government House or to commit any crime. Meanwhile, the police have beefed up security across the state. |
