(AGI) - Abuja, Dec. 3 - A top Boko Haram leader has been killed after a weekend of violence against Christians in the north of Nigeria, military officials said on Monday. A spokesperson of the army in the northwestern Borno State, Sagir Mus, reported that Abdulkareem Ibrahim, a Boko Haram commander and one of the 19 most dangerous terrorists, had been killed. Arms and "other explosive materials were also recovered during the raid that led to death of another two sub-commanders close to Al Qaeda. The raid came after 10 Christians were killed in an overnight machete attack in a largely Christian village. Fifty terrorists also attacked another village close to the Chad border, killing two policemen and setting two churches on fire. More than 3,000 people have been killed in the conflict between Boko Haram and the government forces since 2010. President Goodluck Jonathan said on Sunday that he wanted to reassure Nigerians that their country is sound and safe, despite the alarming news. www.agi.it/flash-news/201212031033-cro-ren1015-boko_haram_leader_killed_in_nigeria |
