The 2020 European Championship finals will be held in a number of cities across Europe, Uefa has announced.

It means there will be no one country hosting the tournament, which will have expanded to 24 teams by then.

The Football Association has already put forward Wembley to European governing body Uefa as a possible venue for the final.


It’s not often that UEFA come up with an actually intelligent decision but we have to tip our hat to Mr. Platini and co. This idea is a good one and one that will surely be accepted by all European footballing federations.

Aside from some potential issues relating to distances that need to be covered by any one nation this is a sound idea that may well freshen up the format

Uefa’s executive committee took the decision at a meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland today and the bidding process to host various stages of the finals will start in March.



The Football Association has already put forward

Wales, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland have
also expressed their interest to Uefa in staging
matches.
"Uefa Euro 2020 will be staged across the continent,
in various major cities, following a decision taken
today. A Euro for Europe follows an initial idea by
Uefa president Michel Platini.
"The response has been extremely positive from all
the national associations."
Infantino added the bidding process for the host
cities would start in March and decisions would be
made in the spring of 2014.
Platini, who won the tournament in 1984 with
France, floated the idea as a way of avoiding high
costs at a time of financial hardship in many
countries.
Higher-than-expected costs and building delays
caused problems for the 2012 tournament in Poland
and Ukraine.

I think its a good move for European football because the financial costs of hosting the tournament would be spread out to different countries, not just one. However, the logistics could become an issue. Will a Group play all their matches in one city/stadium or will the matches of that group be spread out to other cities? I think UEFA should mandate at least 2 cities in each country to host matches, or a single city could present two stadia for the tournament.

It couldn't be possible a team would tour different countries to play diff matches ?

It mos def raise a lot of questions on its implementation feasibility.
