Well, basically its a trend and fashion. The youngster feel like when taking pictures of themselves, they can feel pretty, and confident. And most of the poses, taking pictures from the above head side, makes them look cuter, smaller jaw and big eyes. So... they feel good after looking at that and maybe even post it on a social website such as Facebook, Twitter, etc


for me Taking pictures in front of the mirror doesn't make you cool, it makes people think you have a weird addiction to mirrors.

^^^ it could also be because they have no damn friends to associate with and take pictures of them. If people had "swag like that" then everyone would want to take pictures of them, but since they probably haven't, they have to pretend in front of a mirror and take the picture themselves.
In this way, they can take 150 pics, and choose the one that they think is best, and not showing their imperfection, instead of having one picture taken naturally and randomly in their daily lives by their friends, oozing of swag!
