Army Seeks Media Partnership Against Terrorism by Euroclydon(m): 8:34am On Dec 11, 2012
The Nigerian Army has urged the media to be more proactive and to partner with the force in the war against terrorism in the country.

The Director of Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen. Mobolaji Koleoso, stated this on Monday at a workshop for Army Public Relations officers in Lagos.

Koleoso, who was represented by Col. John Agim, said it was imperative that the media partnered with the army as terrorists had resorted to media manipulation to champion their cause.

He said, “Media activities no doubt require the involvement of all levels of command in the military, ranging from tactical, operational and strategic.

“As you are aware in recent times, the activities of non-state actors in form of insurgence have always manipulated the media to champion their cause. This is because terrorist activities thrive on publicity.

“A former Prime Minister of Great Britain, Margaret Thatcher, said that publicity is the oxygen of terrorists.

“It therefore follows that if the media will join the fight against terrorism, then, they need to objectively consider what they report about terrorism.”

Koleoso said the Nigerian Army had introduced media operations course to prepare its officers on media relations in order to professionally project its activities.
