I have seen the Toyota Corolla 2009 on the net. And, it looks beautiful - in a cute way - though nothing near the Camry 2007. Has anyone an idea of whether the car is in Nigeria already. If not, when can we expect it to be in Nigeria.

Also, the price seems reasonable. Looks like a must-ride for Toyota buffs. i definitely would love to buy one if the price is affordable - say in the region of N 2.2m or N 2.7m.

The 2.0,1.8, 1.6 and 1.4Liters engine Corollas are being marketed in Nigeria and the 1.4Liter engine is the one that sells for 2.6 - 3m.

The photographs you posted are for the XLE 1.8 Liter Corolla, those can go as high as over N4m.

For those serious buyers, I can get you an American spec version of the 1.8Liter version for less than N4m  within 6 weeks.

There is also a 2.4Liter Corolla that is not marketed in Nigeria, I can get that for serious buyers as well.

Sorry to ask this question, but the 2007 corolla, is it in any way superior in quality than the 2009 model? Am asking cause of the price disparity between the two. I was thinking that the 2007 model should be cheaper since is is now 'old model'

I apologise for not making things clearer. You see, the 2009 model that is being sold for N2.7m+ is the 1.4Liter version. As of last week, the official Toyota dealers didn't even have the 1.8Liter version of the  2009 Corolla in stock, in Abuja! I had assumed that people would know that the 1.8Liter 2007 is what was sold for N3m.

The prices I've mentioned in my last post for the most part apply to the 1.8Liter version.

I wouldn't classify the pricing model by Nigerian car dealers as rip offs. The scheme can be explained by simple economics.

Consider this:

UK

2.4L  Honda Accord EX-L base model ,  £25,000 , Approx (N6,000,000)

USA

2.4L  Honda Accord EX-L base model ,  $25,000 , Approx (N3,000,000)

Nigeria

2.4L  Honda Accord EX-L base model , Approx (N5.6million - 6.x)


These cars can be sold at half price, if you will, in the USA because the competition is quite steep, and the number of Honda Accords sold in the USA alone is more than the combined number of Accords sold in the rest of the world! The manufacturers can afford to sell at lower prices and still make a heafty profit based on volume.

If the demand for these cars disappears, the prices will naturally drop. This principle applies to all other cars imported to Nigeria.
