With the way churches springs up in nigeria,to some individuals in nigeria, church has become a business rather than a religous centre...since some pastors now see the church as place where they can easily get private jets.would it bad for taxation to set in,in the church..?

If a church has a bank account it can be taxed, but the tax would be quite low.

Its rare to find mosques with bank accounts , so taxing a mosque might be hard. And, if donations were for humanitarian or non-profit reasons - what would you be taxing.

The fact is that the pentecostal churches have grown rich cos of the tax system, which favour's a lot of us - not only the churches.

But, then again - special tax should be given for churches with private jets - with all the billions of dollars the catholic church has, how many private jets does it boast of, and yet still feed the hungry and clothes the naked.

As long as these churches, are not spending atleast 70% of their incomes on charity and 30% on expenses - they should be heavily taxed.

Yes !!!!! at a very high rate in my Opinion, at least a 30% Tax rate on profits would be reasonable.

It should also be made compulsory that they are Audited Annualy to ensure that items that are not wholly and exclusively for "business purpose"(because this is what they are) ie Jets, luxury cars and other ancilliary costs are not hidden within their profit numbers.

we should even go as far as ensuring that churches that have more than 500 members make there numbers public ie publish accounts.

I think the goverment is missing a reasonable revenue generating stratergy here.

one thing is for sure there is definitely a need for some legislation to control the unecessary set up of Casino style money making centres and the activities of these institutions set up under the banner of christanity.

Do you pay tax on money given (freewill) to you
People are just bias because of their perspective and opinions about the church...
What the church makes as income is not a charge to members, it's a freewill gift!

why then should people pay tax on their inheritance?the church operates as a legal entity and by law is supposed to tender its annual report to the CAC just like every other organization.the only reason they are not held to that law is because of the sentimentality of religion by nigerians
