Abuja is an expensive City to live in. The cost of living is high and this is due mainly to the high cost of rent people have to pay for living space. Shops are not excluded as those in the heart of the city are very expensive and often beyond the reach of most residents who may be interested in owning or renting shops.

If you’re looking for an Abuja shop to rent or buy, here are a few tips to guide you;

Know your requirements

What you hope to achieve with your business is entirely up to you. You know what your business is all about and who you cater to. You’ll obviously need to care about the location, size of the shop and how much you’ll have to pay as rent and so on but your requirements will make the search for a suitable shop easier. So get your requirements clear first.

Set your Budget

Set a limit to your budget. How much are you truly willing to pay as maximum? In the city center in places like Wuse 2 and Maitama rent goes for N30,000 and above per square meter of shop space. That means to arrive at how much you’ll eventually pay as rent you need to know the size of the shop and the going rate per square meter. So let’s say you found a 30 square feet shop in Bloomsbury plaza in Wuse 2 and the going rate is N40’000 per square meter, you’ll pay N1.2 million per annum for that shop. That is besides other charges such as security deposit, commission and so on usually up to 25% of the rent.

Contact a reliable Agent

An experienced and reliable real estate agent has connections and information that could make your search for a shop easier. Once you’ve resolved the issue of what you’re willing to pay as rent and you have your requirements clear in your mind take the final step to contact an estate agent who will make your search for shop space so much easier.
