Nigerians were almost thinking all is well until the past 3 weeks when kidnapping has suddenly reached a new peak in Niger Delta. In my opinion, I believe it has a lot to do with the clamp down on so-called "illegal refineries" operated mostly by unemployed youths from ND. FG needs to tackle this issue with all sincerity and stop paying money to ex-militants. They need to create real job for the teeming jobless ND youths or we may end up having a state of anarchy here.

Not about "CIAFRA" but about survival. Most ND youths are employed in the illegal refinery business. We are just beginning to feel the impact of its closure. The illegal activities employs well over 500,000 from all parts of Nigeria but mostly Southsouth and Southeast ranging from the pipeline vandals to marine transporters to refinery workers to marine distributors to land trucking and further distribution inland all the way to Sokoto. All these involve even the black market boys hawking petroleum products on the streets.

While we know that GEJ didn't create this monster, we are sure that his village style of throwing money at militia men and giving them responsibilities meant for the armed forces may create problems that may take plenty of work to correct.

Tompolo and co are getting billions of naira and the youth believe that the only way to get what they want is by force. When rich thugs become "statesmen" what do u expect

Thank God that Abagworo can now see the inefficiency of his blood brother.
How will a govt take the so-called "Illegal Jobs" away from almost 500,000 Niger-Deltans and South-Easterners
without providing an alternatives?.
Though, I do not support illegalities, but Govt is not looking towards better life for Nigerian citizens.
They are concerned with their family and friends bonanza(immitating MTN).
THERE IS NO FRESH AIR IN JONATHAN'S ATMOSPHERE.
2011 JINGLES WAS A COMPLETE DECEIT.

What I keep thinking is if there is any way it can be legalized and regulated. Communities can request for refineries to be sited in their domain while the total control of the said refineries is given to them. FG can sell the crude oil at a regulated price to these refineries. It is better to pay subsidy for products refined in Nigeria than to give away our foreign reserves for fuel importation.

Closure and destruction of illegal refineries should not be an excuse for anyone to get involved in kidnapping or illegal activities. Afterall, not only youths from ND alone are jobless. It's a national problem.
