donigspain: The figure is fair enough when compared with the population of Nigerians in Ghana as well as the overhyped and exaggerated reports of criminal activities by the Ghana media. You dey mind them. Confused people. Today they blame Nigerians, tomorrow they blame ashantis for every crime committed in Ghana. These days they have shifted their mindset they blame ivorians these days. Meanwhile there are thousands of Ghanaian drug barons languishing in Thailand and Malaysia prisons. 80% of Ghanaian MP's are drug barons, they are always caught and disgraced in USA almost on monthly basis... Nana Akufo Addo their presidential candidate is the biggest drug baron in Ghana |

In kpando they refer to that prison as alata-a term used to refer to nigerians in Ghana- prison. Nigerians constitute abt 85% of the prisoners there.by this estimation as per the statistics and regarding the number of prisons in Ghana we can say about 3000 nigerians will be behind the bars during the yuletide in Ghana. 'Sadly, 23 of Nigeria’s 36 states are represented at Nsawam Prison. Anambra State tops the list with 32 inmates, followed by Abia (22) with Imo coming a close third (20). Delta and Lagos States tie at number four with 14 inmates each; Enugu posts nine (9), while Edo and Ogun states have eight each. Further analyses showed that Borno and Ebonyi have four inmates each, while Kaduna, Rivers and Sokoto have three each; against two each for Kwara, Osun and Oyo as well as one inmate each from Akwa Ibom, Katsina, Kogi, Niger, Ondo and Zamfara'. Painful, bad statistics for Nigeria and those who want MONEY AT ALL COST. |

The OP provided official government data, but as a stupidd Ghanaian, you would like to exaggerate the figures to suit your biased minds. But whatever the case maybe, there are thousands of Ghanaian prisoners in Thailand and Malaysia, there are hundreds of Ghanaians in Nigerian prisons. BTW, you are just a MUGU so you don't deserve any response from me. I don't give attention to retards. |

21 GHANAIANS BUSTED IN NIGERIA … For bunkering 650,000 metric tonnes of oil Some unscrupulous Ghanaians resident in Nigeria are gradually denting the image of the country in the most populous African country. Like some of their Nigerian counterparts in Ghana who have gained bad press as a result of their nefarious activities, these Ghanaians have also resorted to criminal acts that are detrimental to the economy of Nigeria. Nigeria’s economy depends largely on oil exports, but some of these Ghanaians have teamed up with their Nigerian friends to smuggle oil which they have not worked for to foreign lands. The Chronicle gathered that when the stealing of the Nigerian oil became rampant, thereby depriving the country of huge sums of revenue, the government set up a taskforce to monitor the activities of the fuel bunkerers. The taskforce, apparently acting upon a tip-off, arrested the 21 Ghanaians, together with their Nigerian accomplices, in the Rivers State trying to smuggle a large quantity of oil, which they had stored in containers and concealed in two oil vessels. The identities of the Ghanaians have not been released by the Nigerian police, but the suspects are still in detention. A couple of months ago, the international media reported that fuel smuggling was on the ascendency on the West African coast, especially, between Nigeria and Ghana. The report compelled Ghana’s Navy to intensify patrols on our territorial waters to safeguard our newly found oil from being spirited away to foreign lands. Meanwhile the following is how the Daily Times of Nigeria reported the arrest of the 21 Ghanaians. The Military Joint Task Force has arrested 21 Ghanaians and 5 Nigerians for oil bunkering, after two oil vessels used by the fraudsters were intercepted and seized on Tuesday in Rivers State. The spokesman for the Joint Task Force (JTF) in the region, Lieutenant Colonel Onyema Nwachukwu, confirmed the arrest of the suspected bunkerers, also disclosing that the two vessels had a capacity of 650,000 metric tonnes of oil. However, he did not give any information on the exact quantity the two vessels were carrying at the time they were intercepted. “We (the JTF) arrested 21 international oil thieves and five Nigerians on board vessels MT Ani and MT Oso with 650,000 metric tonnes capacity of crude oil,” Nwachukwu said. “The 21 non-Nigerians were Ghanaians.” According to reports, the arrest was made after a tip-off to the Joint Task Force from a reliable source. The JTF destroyed the vessels. Earlier in May, the Chief Executive of Shell, Peter Voser, complained of the increase in oil theft in the country, pointing out that over 150,000 barrels of oil was being stolen in the country every day. http://ghanaian-chronicle.com/21-ghanaians-busted-in-nigeria-for-bunkering-650000-metric-tonnes-of-oil/ |

Nigerian Military apprehends Ghanaian oil thieves http://173.193.124.55/~flexpeac/index.php/news/politics/item/619-nigerian-military-apprehends-ghanaian-oil-thieves Nigerian troops have arrested 22 Ghanaians and five Nigerians whom they caught stealing from an oil pipeline in the Niger Delta, impounding two boats, one of which was carrying 25 000 metric tons of suspected crude oil, the army said on Monday. Nigeria is the world's eighth biggest exporter of crude oil but thieves take a sizeable proportion of its output by drilling into pipelines in operations called “bunkering”. Oil majors say bunkering is a major headache in the oil-rich Niger Delta, a labyrinth of creeks and swamps that has for decades been plagued by militant activity and poor environmental management, leading to devastating oil spills. “Our troops arrested the suspects on Sunday while they were doing illegal bunkering around Awoba flow station in Rivers state. They vandalised the pipeline and stole the crude,” said Brigadier General Tukur Buratai, the state's top commander. “We arrested 22 Ghanaians, five Nigerians and two of their vessels. One of the vessels was loaded with 25 000 metric tons of substance suspected to be crude oil.” An amnesty in 2009 sharply reduced militancy in the onshore swamps and waterways of the Niger Delta but criminal gangs tapping oil pipelines is still a major problem. Royal Dutch Shell estimates that bunkering syphons 150 000 barrels of oil per day from Nigeria's production, and has become a major deterrent to exploring for new fields. The company said on Friday it had declared force majeure on Nigerian Bonny Light crude oil liftings due to oil theft and that 60 000 bpd of oil had been shut down. - Reuters |

Nigerians also used to acquire Ghana passports to travel back to the US after being deported. |

Notorious drug baron caught using Ghanaian Diplomatic Passport in Brazil: http://vibeghana.com/2012/02/13/notorious-drug-baron-caught-using-ghanaian-diplomatic-passport-in-brazil/ The Federal Police Department of Brazil has established that a notorious Ghanaian drug baron, Raymond Kwame Amankwah, who is serving a 14-year prison term at the Provisional Detention Centre at Caucaia in Brazil for drug trafficking, was holding a diplomatic passport issued by the Republic of Ghana. A report released by the Brazilian police said at the time of his arrest, Amankwah, was holding passport number D1878450, a diplomatic passport. Amankwah was arrested at the Pinto Martins Airport in Fortaleza on December 1, 2007 with two non-Ghanaians for engaging in international drug trafficking and sentenced to 14 years and seven months in prison. Amankwah, described as one of the most wanted drug barons, was arrested in Brazil through collaboration between the German Federal Police and their Brazilian counterparts. He was arrested alongside two women, Mandy Veit, a German, and Irena Beata Ciaslak, a German-Polish, at the Pinto Martins Airport in Fortaleza, the capital of the Ceara State, in December 2007. The three were said to be working for a Nigerian group in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Amankwah was waiting for Mandy and Irena, who were due to fly to Lisbon, Portugal, each carrying 3. 08 kilogrammes and 3. 097 kilogrammes of cocaine, respectively. The Daily Graphic, in its August 13, 1996 edition, published a story in which the then Narcotics Unit of the Ghana Police Service had declared Amankwah, also known as Chanda Keita, wanted. The Southwark Crown Court in the United Kingdom was said to have issued a bench warrant for his arrest in1995 for being the brain behind a crack cocaine network whose bust led to the discovery of 5. 5 kilogrammes of cocaine valued at £1 million. It was also indicated that prior to that, INTERPOL had issued a warrant for Amankwah’s arrest in 1990 on behalf of the judicial authorities in France for violating that country’s legislation on drugs acquisition, possession and importation. The police said Amankwah possessed two passports — a Ghanaian passport issued on July 19, 1988 and bearing the name Kwame Amankwah and an Ivorian passport bearing the name Kouame Amangouah and issued in Abidjan on November 15, 1985.
