Can't they just throw this woman out and let's have peace? This same woman was kicked out few months ago and there was celebration everywhere in SEC office, she was reinstated and there was a serious demonstration. Na by force to be DG? If she is as good as she claimed to be, she would have resigned hounorably, to show the whole world that she is not a hungry politician begging to remain in public office against all odds. No body seem to like her, not her management team, not her staff, not NASS.. All these people can not all be wrong. Even if they are, don't we have other capable hands to handle SEC?

So happy. Now that the NA has discovered a way to shear the Executive our democracy can begin to grow. No more hiding behind the Executive or Presidency. Now I hope they can use similar measures to check other parastatals. Perhaps if they had held back 2013 pension funds the Executive will have given up the multi-billion naira fugitive Maina who they are protecting with police escorts.

People who criticise the NA are short-sighted. Their elevated powers are yours. They represent you the ordinary Nigerian. They stood against the fuel subsidy removal (though it has turned out to be a disaster, rightly predicted) and have been raising dust against massive frauds in several ministries which have not been taken up by the Executive.

Whether the lady is guilty or not is not the issue here. If the NA feels they cannot control and influence her office they can seek for her removal. Afterall she was not elected and certainly not in office by popular choice.

She is collateral damage. A tool to shapen our democracy. Pity. She was baited and fell for it. Hope she and others learn from this and hope the NA realises that the Executive will get back at them. Once again to our benefit. The struggle, the seperation of powers, the building of institutions. Not the paddy paddy of the OBJ years. Who cares about individuals.

I can vividly recall that Obasanjo staunchly defended mallam Nasir El-rufai ( former FCT minister) when the latter called the senators/national assembly members "fools" and exposed former senator Mantu for demanding a bribe of N50million. They (senators) called for El-rufai's head on a plate but could not have their way because OBJ unwaveringly backed El-rufai.

GEJ should not allow the National assembly to cower him concerning Oteh. She may not have approached certain issues with the house of rep. members diplomatically but that should not be a reason for them to ask for her resignation. She should be allowed to finish her tenure whether she has the mandated 15years experience or not.

We really need competent and fearless people to lead this nation to greater heights. Does this mean that any one who confronts the national assembly members will be asked to resign even if the allegation against them (individually or collectively) is substantiated with evidence.

Other heads of MDA's may not be able to justly challenge the national assembly members if the President gives in to their cheap blackmail.

afam4eva: What's really the problem the reps have with this woman. Is it because she exposed Hembe?

Well the Executive and the Judiciary had a clean shot through the police/EFCC/and courts to rattle the NA but they failed. Maybe they thought they were stocking political capital. The NA is proving on the other hand that they are not playing.

If you have a clean shot against an enemy sniper please crawl away if you can't nail him cos if you try and miss you won't get a thank you card. Same game the Executive is playing over the Farouk case. I bet the petite man will come back smoking next year and fry their tails.

Na wah oh. Is it government appointees that challenge elected Assembly men or the other way round. When they are summoned it usually means something has gone awry.

You should understand how democracies work. The NA is the policeman of democracy. They may be wrong, they may be corrupt but when you are invited for questioning the worst you can do is play dumb. But to go there and attack, haba. Which democracy do you find that.
Re: Oteh To Be Redeployed To Sovereign Wealth Fund by Peterwins(m): 5:53pm On Dec 24, 2012
With the current CBN governor's untamed tongue on several issues, one would have expected them (national assembly) to shut down the CBN. Hembe's case with Oteh gives a microscopic view on the ulterior motives of these members using over-sight functions as a cover for their nefarious nature.

When the people in authority play dumb the bombs go off. Take boko-haram as a case study.

^^^With all due respect, you sound daft and you're going on like you're the solicitor-general of the national assembly.

Now answer my question: what has Otteh done to warrant her sack?; forget all this dogo turenchi and faffing about that's been the hallmark of your previous posts on this thread....just get to the point!

Perhaps they should mandate CAC to de-register Femi Otedola's Forte Oil and inform the NNPC not to deal with Forte Oil......
Their shameless demand for Oteh's resignation/sack is very nauseating.

It's a big disgrace that this woman is still in office. If she had even a modicum of integrity, she would have since resigned honorably. I remember watching the House of Reps probe of SEC under her leadership, and I remember how she mumbled inanities in response to direct questions about how she abused public service rules by lodging in an hotel for eight months (at tax payers expense), spending as much as N800k a day on meals and 'refreshments', etc.

Instead of trying to these serious allegations and prove her innocence, she arrogantly preferred to ramble on about her Harvard degree and UNN first class degree and whatnot. Worse still, she resorted to roforofo tactics by throwing counter allegations at Hembe pertaining to bribe demands and all that.

After the whole saga, Hembe lost his position as committee chairman, and was even subjected to the indignity of arrest and prosecution - based merely on this woman's allegations. Why then was she not also sacked/asked to resign - based on the allegations of the House Committee against her? In any case, she had running battles with SEC board of directors, commissioners, and the entire staff of the commission. This has slowed down the commission and I see no reason why she stubbornly insists on retaining her position at all costs even when her own staff and board do not want her there. She seems a desperate, bitchy, and dishonourable woman to me.

This is one occasion where I support the National Assembly totally.

@pro01...and Hembe could not immediately counter her allegation(s). Thank GOD Femi Otedola had audio and video evidence against Farouk the crook.

The truth remains that our legislators are just a bunch of illiterate literates, and thus cannot stand any one who is intelligent and brave enough to challenge them. Every right thinking individual knows this is a clear case of a witch hunt.Did our law makers just realize she didn't have the pre-requisite 15years experience? who screened her in the first place? isn't it those bunch of never do wells? Nigeria is a country where wrong triumphs over right, where the ignorant precises over the wise, and the guilty imprisons the innocent.
Re: Oteh To Be Redeployed To Sovereign Wealth Fund by Nobody: 9:05pm On Dec 24, 2012
In my opinion, redeploying otteh is stupid. If she has done nothing wrong, GEJ should stand up to NASS and prove so.
IF there is indeed a case against her, an outright sack is more appropriate.
Re: Oteh To Be Redeployed To Sovereign Wealth Fund by Peterwins(m): 9:13pm On Dec 24, 2012
I would have supported the national assembly on this matter if only they (house committee on SEC) had come to equity with clean hands. Why could they not have left her "in the hand of GOD" as they left someone (Abdulrasheed Maina) who have not been able to account for N195billion.

They simply want to use Oteh as cannon fodder against the president/executive. It's a childish political blackmail.
Re: Oteh To Be Redeployed To Sovereign Wealth Fund by Peterwins(m): 9:25pm On Dec 24, 2012
If I was the President, I will simply insist that she should be allowed to finish her tenure which is less than 2 years I guess. There are more pressing national issues that these legislators should be asserting their so called over-sight functions on rather than trying to crush a fly with a sledge hammer.

Why are we dragging this issue. she suppose to have 15yrs experience before becoming DG. The people who put her there in the first place are to blame.
In the next 5 years she is qualified enough to be DG
Re: Oteh To Be Redeployed To Sovereign Wealth Fund by mbaemeka(m): 1:01am On Dec 25, 2012
You can sheepishly "support the national assembly" whole-heartedly on the issue but what is wrong is wrong. A spade is indeed a spade and not a big spoon.

The NA wants you to believe they're fighting some just cause by asking for her head but its a far cry from the reality. They're simply following the hurt one hurt all mantra. I know of other parastatals and agencies whose heads were summoned and afterwards coerced into releasing funds to them or offering them fictitious contracts. One of which was the NLNG. When they didn't budge they started threatening fire and brimstone. Some of you didn't get a wind of the story because it ensued in a close door setting. Arumah Oteh questioned the integrity of the house that was orchestrated to witch hunt her for not providing money to organize a hearing already paid for by Nigerians yet some grammarians here want you to believe they were just "allegations". Okay, what did they do about their fellow house member that was webbed in the now famous "sting operation"? He was cleared off all charges! It is that NA that has now become judge, jury, plaintiff, defendant and sundry in Otehs case and some ridiculous Nigerians are cheering them. I weep oh.

GEJ now wouldn't grow a pair and stand for what is right. He is perturbed because he knows they have dirt on him too so Mr man is looking for a "soft-landing" when it is already clear that he is fast becoming Nigeria's most pusillanimous president save Shonekan. I wish him and his cronies well.
