No fewer than 14 men die daily from prostate cancer in Nigeria, according to Dr Emmanuel Ajibolajeje, a Consultant Urologist, Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH). He lamented that “Prostate cancer, the second commonest cancer in men, to kill 14 men in Nigeria every day is not acceptable because it can be prevented,”

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that about 80% men will eventually need treatment for prostate problems. No wonder prostate has been described as ‘a time-bomb ticking away in the plumbing of every male’.

Astonishing Ignorance

The alarming state affairs as regard prostate disorders notwithstanding, only a very small percentage of men know what the prostate gland is, available means of investigating prostate problem, various treatment options, and possible measures that can be taken to prevent prostate disorders.
