there are gay people in islam and other religions. The reason you dont hear them is that in their part of the world, people are not as free as the christian and atheist west.

But the rate at which people come out to declare themselves as being homosexual depends on the secularity of the country they live in. A gay muslim in any Islamic country will likely be a closet one due to the severity of the punishment he is likely to be given, but a gay muslim in the west will be more open to coming out to declare himself gay, as seen in the case of the french imam who came out recently to establish a gay mosque.
