When you view the disk on your pc, do you see an iso file or you just see other files and folders?

Does Ubuntu handle playing HD videos well?

That's about right. When you want to boot it, what happens? Is it that the system doesn't bother to boot the cd or it starts to boot and fails?

Can you boot any bootable cds? Say your bootable windows cd if not then the problem is with your bios setting, the system is trying to boot from the hard drive before the cd. WHen your system starts, there should be a message that comes up for a very short time, something like press f2 or f10 or delete to enter setup

Thanks for you time and advice. I actually ran windows on from a disc. Although, i didnt burn the disk, i purchased it that way. I changed the BIOS setting to boot first from the CD/DVD drive.

And it's still not booting? You say it's a DVD rw right? Erase the disc and write the image again

Hi guys. Its been a while that I have grazed this parts. Quick question.. Is there anyone who by any chance still uses glo modem with say wvdial. I am doing some IoT work with RaspberryPi and I will be using a glo USB 3g dongle for Internet connection. The dongle works with Mtn but the coverage in the area I am deploying is very patchy. Feedbacks would be appreciated.

Wvdial! Wow! It's a long time I've used that, takes me back to my days of using a starcomms modem. Haven't used it for years. Have gotten lazy and just stick with a mifi modem

My Linux alternatives such as Kate does a great job and integrates well on my KDE distro so no need to use Notepad++ in Linux.

I dont think you will have any issue if its already configured and works with MTN. Just change the parameters to suit Glo. Are you working with a Raspberry pi shield modem (with SIM 905 etc) and Glo SIM or trying to connect directly with a Glo modem? I am interested in such projects.

Are you still having any challenge getting this to work?

Ohk, if you have the ISO file I will suggest you use a USB drive in place of CD/DVD. Its less stressful.

The only big deal here is that wine is not needed. Some people may not want to use wine, just like me.

Wow!!! That's cool. although, I have a software that integrates well too, but am used to notepad plus plus that's why.

of course both are good for beginners. I mean Ubuntu and mint. They both use dpkg as package manager. So software differences is not a decider. Any desktop environment is fine. xfce, Cinnamon, gnome etc.
I settled for cinnamon and it's bn great tho consumes power (like it demands alot from my processor) and audio quality isn't that good

So you settled for Mint? Good choice,my only challenge is that they dropped support for KDE and I am KDE fan so I will not be touching Mint for a long time to come.
But its a good distro for anybody who wants to switch to Linux.

Same here o.. Network manager has made us all lazy with its auto configure that sadly just works undecided
Anyway I figured it out. Just need to fill some glo specific parameters meters and it is working like a charm. I had to add it to /etc/rc.local for it to start on boot and add a 60 sec delay for the modem to be initialized by the Pi and modem switched. Trust Linux works like a charm every damn time.

Nothing fancy. Just some generic Hsdpa 3g modem I got from some random guy on the street. I needed to figure RPi to monitor my offgrid solar setup and help provide remote logging and system monitoring. The modem was meant to provide connection to the Internet.. After some challenges including having to write custom udev rules for modeswitch for that particular modem and for persistent linking of the modem and charge controller rs232 to ttl usb cables to a particular tty com port using symlinks. Everything worksb like a charm. The resultant output is displayed in my signature below.
