I am a young engineer with a consulting firm. We do lots of welding and fabrication (pipes and sheet).

My job is majorly supervision and designing, but I am interested in becoming a certified welder, just for future purpose.

Now going back to my question, how do I become a certified welder?

Sorry, just stumbled across this thread late,
1) Attend a certified welders. Training center( u can call. NIW for approved centers). and get trained.
2)Sit for the certification exam (theory and practical) ,NIW is the. accredited national body that regulates the welding practice here in nigeria,depending on the certification u want u can either sit for fillet, plate or pipe welders certification examination.
3) If u pass the theory n practical, automatically ur given a certification(certified international welder CWI) or u can get certified to american standards (CAW) but I don't know the body that organises tht of CWA here in nigeria...hope that helped
