Because our leaders are not scientifically and technologically oriented...........they are after accumulation of money for their unborn generations..........they are there because of their greediness, not because of their love for d country and its citizens.

Our leaders are not technocrats, until we have technocrats as leaders, sorry, this is how we are going to stand still technologically, its painful but its d fact.

Should the question not be: Why does Nigeria fail miserably in Science and Technology Development? Nigerians as individuals and smaller non-state collectives are not doing too badly.

The system is abokilized
Re: . by TonySpike:
Nigerians are too religious and mythical on issues of science and technology, the environment itself too hostile for such advancement. Our thought-process and problem-solving orientation are to 'religionistic', we prefer to pray to get scientific and technological problems solved rather than applying science. We need a complete re-orientation on scientific and technological values. Until such values become culture-driven, we are only day-dreaming. It might interest us to know that Nigeria has the largest array of professionals (in Africa) in these fields scattered around the world. An encouragement, with improved public perception, with necessary infrastructure with sincere government input can bring back our professionals to accelerate our growth in this field. My ten bucks...

BlackEmperorX: 1. Why do Nigerians seem to abandon all aspects of Science and Technology development?

2. Are Nigerians incapable of conjuring the work ethic to put heavy focus on these sectors?

3. Wouldn't focusing on this make since if you want better infrastructure and living standards?

Brazil has the most advanced Space program in South America and fantastic infrastructure development despite years of being considered third world.

Yet Nigerians struggle to keep a 8 foot building from collapsing and complains about a Nigerian Space Program being invested into by your government.
Guy you dont generalize just like that. Why should you say Nigerians, may be you used yourself and your village as case study.

BlackEmperorX: I did not know Nigeria government was so heavily entrenched in religion except of course I heard about the Islamic terrorists groups trying to sabotage Nigeria. That mentality can definitely play a role in hindering development.
Here's a very good example of what I'm trying to say...

All of this is due to failed leadership, because Nigeria has the brains to do these things, and Nigerians are far from lazy, we are some of the hardest workers in the world.
