SUPER EAGLES WRAP UP WITH BIG WIN
... Trounce Portuguese side 5-0 The Super Eagles this evening in Faro, Portugal
completed their 2013 AFCON build-up with a
resounding 5-0 win over 2nd Division Portuguese
side, Farense. Playing in front of crowd of just over 1,000 locals, the
Super Eagles started brightly with Chelsea's John
Mikel Obi scoring from the penalty spot after a foul on
Celtic of Scotland's Efe Ambrose. Ambrose had
waltzed his way into the defence of the Portuguese
side and was duly fouled. However, the Eagles failed to score again as the
players went for the 1st half interval. Indeed, Godfrey
Oboabona who partnered skipper of the team,
Joseph Yobo was the only home-based player in
Nigeria's starting XI. Coach of the Nigerian national side, Steven Keshi
made wholesale changes on resumption and the
substitutes brought the desired effect. Infact, he
changed 8 players! Ike Uche re-established himself
as the Eagles leading marksman by grabbing a 2nd
half hat-trick before Emmanuel Emenike scored the 5th at the death. The team will now depart for South
Africa tomorrow.
