Economic Reforms Not Easy In Nigeria – Jonathan by Maxymilliano(m): 9:55am On Jan 16, 2013
President Goodluck Jonathan told the World Bank yesterday that undertaking reforms in a tense political landscape such as Nigeria was a very herculean task.

He, however, reaffirmed his Administration’s resolve to stop at nothing in implementing all the needed reforms necessary for accelerated economic growth, job creation and poverty alleviation in Nigeria.

The president, who spoke at an audience with the World Bank’s Vice President for Africa, Mr. Mouktar Diop, noted that although it was not easy to undertake certain reforms in an intensely political environment, the Federal Government under his leadership would continue to evolve and implement policies that would ensure sustainable development and the long-term well-being of the nation.

Appreciating Diop’s commendation of his administration’s stewardship of the Nigerian economy, the President said that with the continued support of the World Bank, other international institutions and investors, the Federal Government would achieve an even higher growth rate for the national economy.

“We will continue to do our best. We would have had more robust growth by now but for the global economic recession. With your continued support, we will certainly achieve more”, Jonathan said, adding that Nigeria will particularly welcome more support for the World Bank for the concluding stages of its power sector reforms.

Economic reforms are not easy because of the poor quality of leadership and our socio-political environment complicates the process of national development. The depravity of government makes them disoriented by churning out absurd policies and reforms without political will to see it through. A country that is still on zero industrialisation, double digit inflation rate, high interest rate, N6trillion debt and more borrowings to come, infrastructural deficit, massive corruption, failed political class, high unemployment rate and insecurity will NEVER achieve any sustainable development in the long run!

Re: Economic Reforms Not Easy In Nigeria – Jonathan by bory09(m): 4:34pm On Jan 16, 2013
It seems nothing göod easy to accomplish in nigeria.
First when it comes to exam, most especially jamb, neco and waec: its always hell for the truthful student while it is as easy as 123 for the runs student.
You will see your co fellow shop owner getting higher than you all because he do sharp runs that you do not do which makes you work like a machine.
You will see your fellow colleague getting promotion everyday by day even without promotion he is getting more richer than you. Not that you don't work harder than him but because he is doing some cunning things to intensify his money growth. Even businessmen of the same business type have different success even if the most efficient does not get more successful than the lazy one. That is the simple way to define nigeria with its corruption its always easy for our government to embezzle money and its hard for them to deliver the mandate given to them. Nigeria is not running democracy but corruptcracy and it won't be a realistic to expect a man to transform this within four years.

May you have courage to do necessary reforms. And to fight corruption, as the act of corruption seems to be the only easy thing here.
