I presume you're looking at the 2,0 turbo?

Yes boss

All 2,0 turbo motors in the VW Passat run FSI technology. Fuel Stratified Injection. This is the petrol equivalent of TDI (Direct Injection in a diesel engine). The fuel system pressure is very high, more than twice regular EFI pressure. This means should the fuel pump fail, there's no substitute. Fit a regular EFI pump, the engine will not run.

So of course, this is not a car for your roadside or non-qualified mechanic. There's also the added complication of having a turbo. It's a highly-strung motor, and again, not the average Nigerian mechanic's dream. It's a nice refined, and powerful inline 4, but unless you're looking to use a Volkswagen dealer exclusively for service and repairs, I would rule this engine out.

Given the country you intend to use the car in, I would advice the 1,6 FSI. You can't avoid FSI technology with the petrol-engined B6 VW Passat, but at least you get a less complicated engine that will be a whole lot more reliable. One issue with turbocharged engines is heat, and in Nigeria, that's one thing you could well do without.

Good luck!
