The ongoing effort by the GEJ led government to open up the closed depots owned by NNPC so as to make petroleum products available has recorded another success with the opening of the Benin depot. Also at the occasion the petroleum minister said that state owned NPDC has become the largest supplier of gas in the domestic market hence boosting efforts in the gas-to-power initiative.
Speaking at the occassion,Edo state governor Adams oshimole commended the federal government for rehabilitating and opening the depot after long years of closure.
On his part, Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State
commended President Jonathan for reactivating the depot,
saying without the president’s intervention, it would not
have been possible.
“We commend the leadership of the president for giving
the support and providing the resources and political
leadership without which today would not have been a
reality,” he noted.
The president, according to him, “has demonstrated with
the way this facility has been restored that we don’t need
to wallow in lamentation and that we can find courage to
provide leadership to drive changes that are necessary for
us to invent those things that we had before that have
disappeared.”

he is the only AC.N governor who is not a hypocrite. He says it as it is.when he won his second term he heaped the same praise on the president so don't be suprised

By d way, dis is d 3rd or 4th depot and pipeline system brought back to live afta sm yrs (even decades for sm of dem) of bn moribud in d last yr or so. Aba and Ore and i tink Mosimi hv already bn brought back to life. Jos and Gombe are almost finishd and odas esp up north wud soon follow. Kudos to PPMC.

GEJ is clearing away d mess/years dat d kankaworm and catapilla hv eaten, d headiwork (or is it, 'no work') of past leadas SLOWLY and SILENTLY. He is fixing d power sector finali; resuscitating dilapilitatd rail tracks and building new ones; remodeling rotten airports 11 of dem at a time in one yr, 11 oda ones and 5 new terminals to start dis yr; building new river ports along d Niger (1 already complete and d oda 3 almost complete) and dredging d river as well as Benue; repairing sm abandond roads like Benin-Ore, Abuja-Lokoja, Onitsha-Owerri, Enugu-PH, Kano-Maiduguri, Ibadan-Lagos, East-West etc - though a lot of work still needs doing on roads; providing free/subsidizd fertilizers and seeds that get to d real farmers unlike what obtains previously ;providing educational opportunities for MILLIONS of Almajiris in d north FOR THE 1ST TIME even if most oda presidents were from d north without doing anything, 87 new model day and boarding schools hv already bn completd in 9 months while 9 new universities hv bn built; better electoral climate and a more transparent environment (FOI et al) also bn institutd, etc etc.

I pray that this trend continues as well as oda many inadequacies solvd overtime....

I actually wanted to post this article from the Nation Newspapers on this retooled Benin Depot in a new thread, but since this thread already exists I decided to post it here in stead:

A strong feeling of appreciation and re-awakening ran through the historic city of Benin in Edo State yesterday as Minister of Petroleum Resources Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke re-commissioned the strategic Benin Depot of the Pipelines and Products Marketing Company (PPMC) which has been out of operation since 2005.

Governor Adams Oshiomhole said with the re-activation of the Benin Depot by the minister, the Federal Government has demonstrated its resolve to sustain the ongoing reforms in the oil and gas industry.

“The minister has demonstrated that indeed good things can come from the Petroleum industry as well as the NNPC,” he said.

Oshiomole recalled how he had to embark on what he termed a ‘pilgrimage’ to the Warri Refinery at the inception of his administration, to solicit for the supply of petroleum products to the state. “I thank God that I don’t have to make such long walk to Warri again because the Benin depot is back to service.” he said.

The governor pledged to mobilise the resources as well as the people of Edo State to combat the issue of pipeline vandalism which he described as a national menace.

Declaring the depot open for operation, Mrs. Alison-Madueke noted that the revamping of the Benin depot is a single item in a long list of practical measures designed by the President Jonathan’s administration to sanitise the downstream sector of the oil and gas industry.

She said: “As an industry, we are extremely satisfied that the transformation agenda of the President in the oil and gas industry is coming to fruition. We are grateful to the Joint Task force for the level of support they have given the petroleum sector especially in the area of pipeline vandalism. It clearly shows how successful we can be as a people if we come together to combat a scourge.”

Group Managing Director of the NNPC Andrew Yakubu said in the months ahead, the drive to revitalise the nation’s petroleum products depot will be sustained with the re-opening of the Gombe and Jos depots. “We have re-commissioned Mosimi, Aba and now Benin. But the good news is that we are not going to stop here, very soon we shall be in Gombe, Jos and other depots. In fact, we are not going to stop until the 21 depots become fully operational,” he said.

Describing the depot revamping project as NNPC’s contribution to the transformation agenda of the Federal Government, Yakubu urged stakeholders to support the corporation in its quest to combat the incidence of pipeline vandalism.

Similar commendations came from the leadership of the Edo State chapters of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association (IPMAN) and the Petroleum Products Tanker Drivers Association.

Constructed in 1978 and inaugurated on August 30,1979, the Benin depot has 17 storage tanks with a combined design capacity to store 121, 720,000 litres of petroleum products including premium motor spirit, household kerosene and automotive gas oil. The facility has nine loading arms. The depot serves as a link for products evacuation from the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company through a 16-inch pipeline traversing 89.9km.

While the effort of GEJ in reviving the depots especially the one in Benin-City is commendable, in the same spirit of accountability and transparency as demanded by insincere9Nigerian, thelostpope, etc, can we know who we're responsible for the dearth of these depots, what happened to the monies allocated to these depots when they were not functioning, and most importantly, HOW MUCH DID THIS GOVERNMENT/NNPC spend to revive the depot! What exactly did they revive in the depot? Has the capacity of the depot been increased? Or did they just re-paint the storage tanks, change the discharging nozzles and re-paint the fencing?

The other very potent question that must be answered is this; given that the Benin Depot takes delivery from the Warri Refinery, what is the current state of that refinery, else if th depot is unable to get supplies from Warri Refinery as has been the case in the past, the revived depot would be useless to the people.

Again, without any political biase, GEJ's effort if truly transparent is commendable, but this is not the time for praise singing, Nigerians need him to do more and better because His government has been given all the support need to truly bring Nigeria back from the dust and get her steam rolling in high places, that is not happening yet, hence we must continue to put GEJ on His toes and not sing His praises

Good thing from the retardeen govt however how much did this cost us.we need to know that that liar of a woman called madueke isn't playing a fast one here. Giving us crumbs having spent a fortune. This is the season of accountability. Thank goodness our curses seems to be working afterall. They seems to be more responsive with such. Gone are the days of praying for our evil leaders.
Re: Strategic Nnpc Benin Depot Finally Reopened by Demdem(m): 12:10am On Jan 21, 2013
Secondly, the retardeen should take a look at the TAM of these refineries and subsequent building of new refineries. Telling us govt can't suceed in running refineries and waiting for investors IMO is silly.
