Norton is just a name.when it comes to actual virus detection,it is not efficient.its heavy on system, runs at background dispalyin unnecessary notifications.i prefer AVG and few others(wit regular updates) above it.Norton is just more popular bc of dia marketing strategies:which is bc it comes with many new laptops.i boycotted using d norton 360 i bought on d 5th month of use bc it became unbearable.am enjoying my AVG internet security,it gives me d desired protection. |

Re: Is Norton Stereotyping Nigerians And Nigeria? (pics) by mithel(m): 4:40pm On Jan 23, 2013 |
justwise: now you have crossed the line, nigeria is a country with 150 million people, and am sure the scammers and scam supporters alike are not up to 10 percent of that, and mind you 10 % is 15 million people.....so saying he is in the minority is bullsh*t,Nigerians are not scammers,we are just unfortunate that our population is so much that, even when 5% of us are doing something bad,it looks like the whole nation is involved.......abi who go say 15 million aint plenty. |

Omo_Tier1: Yes, the Chinese and Russians send FAR FAR more spam and scam e-mails than Nigerians do. But you know what? The Eastern-European type scam has one objective in mind: liberate you of your credit card details and drain some cash from your account. Everything is done impersonally and once you're hit, they move on. On the other hand, the Nigerian pattern is much more repulsive. They call you up on the phone, gain confidence and betray, empty accounts and credit cards, coerce the victims into borrowing more and more money (driving them further in debt)...sometimes the victims are put in physical risk when they send you dud checks and make you go to the bank to cash it in. Many innocent people get arrested for attempted fraud at banks, putting them in further legal as well as financial trouble. There are certified records of not a few people committing suicide after a Nigerian scam hits them. So yes, there are much more emails from russia promising cheap viagra or cialis or penile enlargement pills. But the Nigerian ones (while fewer in number) are much more odious. |

mithel: Sorry, he's in the minority. OF all the songs in Nigeria, why did 'I go chop your dollar', 'Yahoozee' and 'Maga don pay' rise to the top of all the charts? Scammers may be in the minority, but there's a large population of boneheads that are scam sympathizers! 1 Like |

texazzpete: This is not a good argument. What do you say about rap songs that glorify violence and gangsters - they also make it to the top ten globally. Are those of us who like rap music sympathisers with gangsters? |

The stupidity of some Nigerians who have no inkling of what Business ethics means is so surprising! Those of us that have access to global data on cyber crime knows Nigeria is no where near the top of the nations who engage in industrial and Domestic cyber crimes! Most Nigerians on NL e.g Justwise continue to display holier than thou whenever Nigeria and Nigerians unfairly stereotyped by big corporations or governments of nation state. We know cyber criminals in Ukraine, Georgia, Bosnia, Russia commit more cyber crimes, will Norton have the guts to brand these nations as they are doing to Nigeria? Whilst no body is glorifying any Nigerian or groups of Nigerians who engage in cyber crimes, I think a responsible business outfit ought to know where to draw the line when trying to market their products or services. Someone even made a nonsensical comments about a music video on youtube. If I may respond mildly to that shallowness of a reasoning, did Americans cry high heavens when tupac, Notorious BIG, etc sang songs glorifying guns, killings etc? I am sure that poster also sang those songs 1 Like |

I'm not surprised at your rant at all because you are a well known sympathiser |

justwise: [b]To your grand stupidity, you call such shrewdness "cleverly" product marketing. Yet if this same approach was employed by a Nigeria based or Nigerian owned company, you would scream high heaven and display your holier than thou attitude claiming how this will never be done by a Western company. FYI, I am not a wannabe whitey like you're and I call a Spade its first name! I dare to ask you, in all your student life here in the UK, how many times have you order goods online from China? Is cyber crime by Chinese not 10X that of Nigerians? Can Norton dare to do same to China? Like I said, the stupidity of folks like you who come on-line and claim holier than thou, because your self-worth is tied to bashing and condemning Nigeria at every turn of the corner and glorifying anything done by Western companies or government of nation states from the West. |

aglomar: Who's using Norton nowadays? I do, when the timer hits zero. I use norton reset tool to reset the timer for another 3 months inshort I never have to pay thanks to the programmer who desinged norton reset tool. I don't see what's the big deal in what you all making noise about norton. It's simple pay for the package or get a pirated copy simple. All antivirus has a limit or time to expire and need to be renewed, norton is not the first and will not be the last in future. I heard someone say norton slows down his pc, I suggest you take a look at the Norton minimum requirement against your pc specs am quite sure it's the reason why your of is dragging but if your specs are okay then I advice you to check your what is consuming your pc resources. Don't know how google it. Someone else said its a virus, come on man cut me some slack! You probably installed a virus named norton lol. But on a serious note from experience, NEVER download a free copy or trial of an antivirus online EXCEPT from its maker site. Let me tell you why, I downloaded a copy of Mirosoft Office Suite and noticed my system performance became slower than usual. I decided todo a scan and found out the source of the virus was from the installation of Office itself. I was shocked I did some research online and found out thats the new means at that time of transferring viruses to ones Pc that is not protected thinking the software is safe whereas it's loaded with virus to be off loaded to your PC. So for instance, if you want to download Norton antivirus I suggest you download a copy from Norton website itself and not a website like download.com or similar ware website. Hope this info comes in handy. |
