Symphony007: This luminates a broader point of how shambolic our fedralism is!! Stae govournors see themeselves a lords over their fellow elected local government chairmen. They sack them at will and control their budget. It's wrong. In rivers state, bonny island is the oil capital of nigeria home to the largest lng plant in africa, bonny oil terminal, etc. But the current governour has just ignored the island, i don't know what he has against them but the island through it's "local government" has also ignored the stae amd used it's opportunity well. Today bonny island is the only place in nigeria with uninterrupted power supply. Good roads, and other nice things. The national assembly needs to address this.

Right on point. I currently work there, and sometimes you would begin to imagine if Bonny LGA is part of Rivers State. There is constant power supply, constant water flow from a central system. Power units very cheap. Even though the roads are not too wide, but they are smooth with good inter-connectivity. I give kudos to leaders involved in the administration of the Island because they have their people at heart.

we have come to the point whereby the only thing we talk about is oil. the tragic thing is that the region possessing this oil does not benefit from it as most of them live poor if not poorer lives than people from non-oil regions. there is a similar thread about facts about petroleum in Nigeria and the need to diversify https://www.nairaland.com/1175083/fashola-made-great-point

"However, with support from the leadership of the Oil and Gas Producing Communities of Niger Delta, oil communities in the state had found their lost voice. They have joined the campaign for direct payment of 13 per cent derivation to host communities."

One can see that some of us are even supporting this idea in this present stage of our country. how do we expect this country to develop or move forward when those that are representing others are acting on their own personal interest?

Oil and Gas Producing Communities of Niger Delta - FG interpret as state
host communities - interpreted as state and the 13% goes to state

Now, this guys with big English fooling themselves interpreting the above terms as OMOONILE which will eventually means that if the oil is not from your fathers/family land then one is not entitle to anything or one is bound to receive this - we are just helping you guys!

and these are same people agitating for own republic - terrible is a nice word to use.

Some ppl have finally woken up to smell the coffee, they are now realising how their leaders are playing them boju boju with their money and turning them against/blaming others.
