Today the House of Rep. debated on the issue of Nigerians in foreign jails. With several news lately about this issue and debates here and there, I will like to know who is to be blamed for their misfortune? Victims (if they can be called so), government, parents or society?

The information gap is so wide that people don't know what the outside looks like.Blame the values we all share. But systems are created by governments and people are a product of a system they are coming from, blame government.More information is needed to prepare people. Its not green on the other side.

The blame goes to the people in the jails, they broke the laws and should pay for it

Its information, some people don't know that expired visa can take you to jail in some countries. If people have real information of the other side, some people will not bother to make the journey

Who else should take the blame if not the person who committed the crime?

If you did the crime please shut up and do the time, regardless of where you are.

firstly, we have to blame the people that broke d law but u should be aware that not all d people serving jail terms are guilty.

Secondly, we have to blame Nigerian Government too afterall there is Nigerian Embassy out there to take care of the welfare of Nigerian citizens but they seems to be spending our money in a diplomatic way & move around with white babes.

Lastly, i think it's normal to orientate all travelers about d basic rules of the country they are going to.

E NO GO BETA 4 NIJA GOVERNMENT!!!

The culprits of course! Did the government commit the crimes on their behalf? Any way, the senate could ensure that they get fair judgement and treatment.

I once watched a TV documentary about the enviable lifestyle enjoyed by convicts in Norway, particularly some who are housed on an island where there are no bars or locked doors, and where all the recreational facilities and modern amenities of a comfortable life are provided free to inmates, along with educational opportunities to match those available at a price on the “outside”.

A few inmates were interviewed for that TV show, and one, who spoke with an unmistakable Nigerian accent, was so delighted with the accommodations that he waxed rhapsodic about his idyllic life as a guest in that Norwegian island correctional facility. One can imagine a gentleman like that re-offending weeks after his current sentence ended, so as to re-enroll for another leisurely stretch in jail, at tax-payers’ expense, and with generous conjugal visits thrown in to sweeten the deal.

Unlike Nigerian jails, where families of inmates are expected to deliver to jail all meals for their convict kin, and where many prisoners subsequently die of hunger, inmates in many of Western Europe’s jails are provided with a considerably higher standard of life than many of those inmates were accustomed to enjoying in the homes and neighborhoods where they grew up. Some jails in Switzerland are downright luxurious, by many accounts, and since most people, including Nigerians, appreciate luxury, and indeed aspire to a life of luxury without labor, it is no surprise that Nigeria is WELL represented in jails worldwide.
