Lagos To FERMA: Stay Off Ikorodu Road by watchinglagos: 7:37am On Jan 31, 2013 |
The Lagos State Government has warned the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to steer clear of Ikorodu Road now being reconstructed by the state. The Ministry of Works and Infrastructure’s Deputy Director of Press and Public Relations, Biola Fagunwa, in a statement yesterday, urged FERMA to concentrate on other federal roads begging for attention. He said FERMA’s planned rehabilitation of the road could be construed as undue interference amounting to duplication of efforts and waste of resources that could be used to rehabilitate Abeokuta Expressway, Lagos- Sagamu Road, and Apapa-Oshodi Expressway. Fagunwa said the state has been granted the permission to maintain and rehabilitate Ikorodu Road. He listed the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), rehabilitation of service lanes, and replacement of about 20 manhole covers as evidence of the state’s intervention on the road. “With such commitment demonstrated by the state government, it will be a sheer waste of energy and indeed a design to create unnecessary tussle between the various agencies of government for FERMA to insist on carrying out any rehabilitation,” the statement said. http://www.watchinglagos.com/2013/01/lagos-to-ferma-stay-off-ikorodu-road.html |

SMH. Is it now that rehabilitation work has commenced by LASG that FERMA realises the road needs attention? Let them (FERMA) kindly focus on other bad roads and stop this unecessary attention seeking. |

Ryabcool: What a shame on FERMAYou thin the FERMA board is even slightly ashamed.. it only means they get to spend all the allocations on roads rehabilitation without breaking a sweat, they can go to ayobo and fill up a few pot-holes and that is the end of 2013 budget 1 Like |

FERMA only does patch work after so much pleading and plodding by LaSG. Let LaSG do the project and get a refund from the FG. |

As if the FG didn't see or notice that the road was bad before the LASG decided to fix it and now that they've started, the FG wants to move there and take the shine off the proactive state government. Well said Fagunwa, they should look else where as there are scores of Federal roads in the state with gaping potholes yawning to be filled |

All these childish confrontational approach to every little matter is just not it. It is in the interest of Lagosians if LASG and her officials have a good working relationship with the FG. Peter Obi is doing it in Anambra and it is working. At the end, it is not about how much you opposed the President or FG agencies, it is about how you are able to attract development to your area with the aid of the federal might. Even Akwa Ibom with all her oil wealth still recognize this fact. |

Sincerely this would have been no issue and I would have loved the idea so much if not for LASG that will come back to FGN to demand 10 times what was actually spent on the road. In all, I think the FG should allow LASG to carryon with the repairs but get an independent firm to audit the spending. God Bless Nigeria and Nigerians |

Frank-C: You're obviouly the one that needs a baby sitter here. When was the last time LASG begged your Federal might for aid or idea on development or even begged them to come and develop Lagos. For months on end now Lagos has been calling Ferma to come and fix Oshodi Apapa expressway they have turned a deaf hear and suddenly woke up from their slumber as soon as they saw signs Lagos was about to do the work that has been begging for attention on Ikorodu road. Meanwhile, when did calling Lagosians attention to this matter become a confrontation. All those states you mentioned certainly need FG, Lagos doesn't as a matter of fact the FG should come and learn how to run government business from Lagos. 2 Likes |
