The only way corruption can be checked is if the leaders regularly give detail accounts of the monies they generates and spends and for what
purposes. Anything short of that will mean gross irresponsibility which equals unchecked and endemic corruption that happens to be the order of the day in today's Nigeria. Although some of us see it as lesser evil, but all evil are evil, none is lesser and none should be condoned.

Public servants are obligated to deliver, live by their wages, allowances and strict code of conducts, not privileges maim, destroy and loot with impunity.

You guys can defend GEJ all you want but the facts remain the facts.
1)If OBJ, FFK and El rufai are as corrupt as you people say, why has GEJ not put them in jail? Is fighting corruption not part and parcel of his job?
2)Like OBJ said GEJ is the chief security officer of the country and he takes the blame for their lapses(boko haram, kidnapping). Was OBJ lying? before you tell me OBJ is corrupt read question 1.
3)Dr Oby asked for an account on how GEJ spent certain monies and Abati/Reno/Okupe/Laptops guys have refused to answer the question why?
4)A year after subsidy issue, nothing has been done and you tell me GEJ is working? Do you count sleeping and eating as work?
5) If somebody uses a fake signature to withdraw money from my account, i'd fight the bank and not the person. Using that Analogy why would GEJ, Dieziani and NOI tell me a "cabal" is responsible for the subsidy fraud? Were they jonzing when people brought "fake" documents to register brief case companies and collect cheques without supplying products?

Just read now that the FCT is actually intending to spend #150m to rehabiblitate the DESTITUTES, beggars, Prosti.tutes etc in the budget, NOT #5billion that wa earlier reported:

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Senator Bala Mohammed, has stated that the amount budgeted for LovePeddlers and rehabilitation of destitutes in the FCT 2013 budget is N150million and not N5 billion as reported in the media.

He therefore called on all residents of FCT and indeed, entire Nigerians to totally disregard the reports about the 2013 budget of FCT, especially as they pertain to destitute and LovePeddlers rehabilitation, saying they are outright misrepresentation of the facts and figures of the budget.

A statement signed by the Special Assistant (Media) to the FCT Minister, Mr. Nosike Ogbuenyi, made available to THISDAY yesterday said: “Following various misleading media reports arising from last Thursday’s Senate debate of the Federal Capital Territory Administration’s 2013 budgetary proposals purporting that the sum of N5billion was proposed for rehabilitation of LovePeddlers and destitute in Abuja, we are compelled to set the records straight as they concern the appropriation.”

According to the statement rehabilitation of destitutes and commercial sex workers (LovePeddlers) is part of the schedule of the Social Development Secretariat of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).

“However, the empirical truth is that the entire budget of the Social Development Secretariat for the 2013 fiscal year is N4.7billion only. Out of this amount, the sum of N931.3 million is for personnel cost; N1.6billion for overhead expenditure and N2.2billion for capital expenditure.
The sum of N150million only out of this amount is for evacuation and rehabilitation of destitute, LovePeddlers (commercial sex workers) and other vulnerable persons.”

The statement stated further that the duties of the social development secretariat are quite wide. “The mandate of the secretariat goes far beyond the task of rehabilitating LovePeddlers, beggars, hawkers and other groups of destitute in the FCT. The schedule of the Secretariat encompasses improvement of the economic well-being of FCT residents through the implementation of initiatives that help in the empowerment of all vulnerable persons and groups in the FCT,” it said.
“It is also part of the mandate of the Social Development Secretariat to provide succor and nurture for women, youths, children, widows and widowers in the FCT. The Secretariat equally provides welfare for persons with disability, orphans and the elderly. Other aspects of the mandate of the Secretariat include promoting sports and sporting activities in the FCT as well as harnessing the culture and tourism of the FCT. For instance, the Secretariat undertakes development of sports facilities and sporting talents hunt as well as management and upgrading sports facilities including the popular Old Parade Ground, Garki, Abuja.

“Again, the fact that there are seven departments under the Social Development Secretariat attests to the widespread nature of its mandate. The departments under the Secretariat are Sports; Arts and Culture; Youths; Tourism; Gender; Welfare; and Administration. This fiscal year, 2013, the Secretariat is to commence the building of Community Sports Centres in all the six Area Councils (LGAs) of FCT beginning with Kuje, Kwali and Bwari Area Councils.

“It is ironical that the misleading reports about the budget for Social Development Secretariat are making wrong waves at a time when arrangements are being finalised for the commissioning this Tuesday, February 5, 2013, of the ultra-modern Youth Support Centre at Nyanya in Abuja Municipal Council built by the Secretariat. The centre has facilities for vocational training, ICT training, printing press, five-a side football pitch, basket ball court and others.”

After everything is said and done I cannot think of a single thing that the Obasanjo administration did for Nigeria so until such a time when Jonathan leaves office and cannot be said to have done a thing Obasanjo's people should shut their cake holes.

Of course, the 'Transparency issues ..which has made some progress' cos of some probes in the Oil industry and the 'new regulations' that the discoveries from such probes have spurned- ALMOST ALL are been/being done by GEJ's Govt.

Is it the same transparency report that Azikiwe Jonathan lead govt boldly denied, that the report is bias
Thank you for giving it credit

This was my 'interpretation' of the above comment from Cameron in the comment that @Omo-Tier sheepishly responded to (rather, thought he was responding to):

Of course, the 'Transparency issues ..which has made some progress' cos of some probes in the Oil industry and the 'new regulations' that the discoveries from such probes have spurned- ALMOST ALL are been/being done by GEJ's Govt. It is GEJ that have ordered more than 5 probes on the extremely dark Oil industry which NO previous Nigerian Govt almost NEVER attempted; and He is the one one putting up new regulations and pushing the passage of the extremely critical PIB bill through the national assembly.
Let me restate for EMPHASIS that SO MUCH MORE still needs doing in this respect, as Cameron implies.

Now, this is the PROPAGANDISTS' 'interpretations' of the above comment of Cameron:

C

Chose for yourself which 'interpretations' you believe to be closest to what Cameron said and/or intended.

Thank God you wrote it was "your interpretation" to Cameron's submission which does not necessarily mean you are right nor wrong.

What are the necessary moves taken by this administration to clean up the oil and gas industry? As at today, the PIB still remains unpassed. The Ribadu report white paper committee has taken longer than expected, the Idika Kalu's report, KPMG and their recommendations which does not need legal amendment to check the fraud in the industry but the president's order such as stop the selling our crude oil allocation at cut down price and start selling directly to the refineries, stopping NNPC from making illegal withdrawal at source and many others. The country still losses billions of dollar to government officials and their economic saboteur cronies. Reasons why Cameron through the G8 used Nigeria as a Case in Point!

How many government officials who connived with the subsidy thieves have been sacked or prosecuted? the PPPRA chairman during the fraud is aspiring to be PDP's BOT chairman, the executive secretary is still there The opaque dealings in NNPC continue as ever. Even the local content law still remains to be adhered to by operators.

Government's performance should be felt by the citizenry and not through the mouth of publicists!

No matter the amount of grammars spew here, I believe one thing like yesterday. GEJ government is a serious mistake in Nigeria history. You need to be purely and truly a detribalized and sensible individual to see this right from his day one.

Femi and co are just playing to the gallery. Comparing OBJ to GEJ is like comparing the light from the moon to that of the sun period. OBJ should be ashamed that for 8 years he could not improve power generation in this country. OBJ should be ashamed that a single train did not leave its station under his watch. OBJ should be ashamed for the further decay in the institutions of this country. OBJ should be ashamed that even with the massive oil windfall experienced during his administration nigeria has nothing to show for it. OBJ should be ashamed that he couldnt even tackle the leaks in the oil sector, no previous government brought it out to the fore like GEJ government has done. OBJ's men should be ashamed that all they run with are made up figures always trying to play on the masses emotions. We are not kids, we have not forgotten the waste of the OBJ administration, the elephant projects, the trip all over the world, the fight with everyone that speaks against him, his third term bid and so on. every government needs criticism and GEJ has his shortcomings too but for goodness sake nigerians are not fools, they should stop all this distractions and bitterness out of jealousy and allow GEJ to do what they couldnt do to our railway, aviation, power, agriculture and oil sectors.

nah, that he DELIBERATELY does not see things from a REASONABLE and SENSIBLE point of view makes him (& you) a slimy person. That he doesn't seem to care about the welfare of those who elected his principal in & who should be well taken care of with the money paid to online as.slickers like him (& likely you too) makes him a VERY BAD person. By apparently NOT realising that his failure to stand up for the truth & demand good governance is directly ensuring that his kids will have to live in/visit a worse off Nigeria is totally daft of him.

In Nigeria today things you see will make you be rest assured that evil will remain with us for a long time. Why is Kayode not asking IBB to come and account for 12 billion dollars. Why is Kayode not asking OBJ to come and account for 16 billion dollars he spent for us to have darkness. Today in Nigeria what we have is politics of tribe and ethnicity.

I say these govt apologists on nairaland are total i.dio.ts. They don't know what their rights are. All because of some seemingly big but actually paltry money they are earning, foolishly not realising that if Nigeria were to be effectively governed, with all amenities and structures in place, they will honestly earn that and much more. Plus the environment will be safe for them to live in. Welfare and security of the people is paramount. A government that has consistently scored a low in those two key aspects in 3 years is obviously not the change the people need. & by 2015, i assure you, these fools will be rooted out of power and be rest assured that their nairaland apologists will be broke as.s fish few months afterwards for the simple fact that for every lie and mis information they spread, they are eroding their intelligence by a significant percentage.

Guys, its not too late to redeem yourselves and stand on the side of the people, if not for anything but for the sake of your conscience and your very own peace of mind.

What a bunch of marlakey!! This shambolic ex-minister still has the guts to spew rubbish? What credibility does he have? He presided over the most plane crash in nigerian history ranging from ADC to belview and 60 beautifull children aboard sosoliso! Under his tenue "a cow" ran into port harcourrt international airport and nearly crashed an air france plane. What were his achievement? What did he do as minister that gives him the brass to critisize? You know, the climax of this hypocrisy is that when I demand to know how Fashola spend monthly income of N40b, they will shout me down. All these later day saints are not interested in how OBJ spent the $16b power funds nor how IBB spend the $12b oil wind fall or even how Fani Kayode spent the aviation intervention funds or how much El-Rufai spent on each demolition activity in Abuja or how much Fashola spent on 'cleaning up' Oshodi. The target is clear- shoot the President down because he is not from the axis of power. They forgot to look at the new political map and see how much things have changed.

Is this really about accountability or about political gains? Not even the ACN or CPC peeps in the NA are talking about drastic amendment to the Criminal Code.

Meanwhile, i urge the President to get the CBN to publish the account statements of the Foreign reserves. I also urge him to push for fast track of the criminal cases in court including the ones against Fani Kayode and El-Rufai. Halliburton scandal should also be reopened. We need to know where this rain started beating us!

OBJ and GEJ are both crooks. In fact they are all crooks. What has riled people, home and abroad, about GEJ, more than others, is his penchant for open wastage, mindlessly unhidden profligacy and "don't give a damn" conduct. Nonetheless, OBJ has probably stolen more secretly , deceiving all home and abroad, in my opinion.

GEJ is just not very clever at covering his tracks and the social networking age has become a monster in GEJ's time to the extent every 'misconduct' of the GEJ government goes 'viral' creating millions of critics. OBJ is no different to GEJ. OBJ is worse in my opinion and I pray Nigeria moves on from these sort of leaders who were selected as 'tools' to protect the interest of those who have been ravaging Nigeria for decades.

So he will just instruct the igp to put them in jail without police investigation which will take another 20yrs to conclude. And before you know it GeJ will be castigated as a president who does not hve respect for rule of law. One thing I know its not easy to be a leader and uneasy lies the head that wears the crown. All these fraud exposure we see today is an effort to combact corruption which has been the cancerworn that has eaten deep into the fabric of our system.
