Any of the people who made that law that knows they have not committed adultery or fornication should cast the first stone.

Would I blame the sellers or my sister? Did the sellers go to her house to force her to buy and watch?

Kai! use your brain naw?
When hawked in the streets everyone is exposed to it and is free to buy regardless of age. I guess you wouldn't think it bad either if they hawk crack and coke...after all...they not forcing anyone to buy.

Rubbish.... It's very funny the way we enforce our laws, must their pictures be taken? Are they criminals? They should have just been cautioned and let off the hook, rather than disgracing them like that. You are free to think whatever you want but I do not support disgracing someone in public. In Port Harcourt, they were warned not to sell or display it openly, so you just go and ask the seller for it, grab it and off you go. And to add to that, it should not be sold to under 18 including any alcoholic drink.

Fail.

Pornography is not an abusive/addictive substance like cocaine

Furthermore, as long as they sell to adults, I see problem.

Fatdon: Four distributors of Pornographic materials were arrested at Cele Bus Stop on Oshodi-Apapa Expressway on Tuesday by the Lagos State Taskforce on Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit after the police raided the area. Those arrested will be arraigned before the Special Offences Court at the taskforce yard and prosecuted for selling obscene materials.

The sellers of the X-rated materials arrested are Yinka Dada, 25 years; Udoh Nne, 29 years; Sylvester Obodoe, 18 years and Poopola Bamidele, 18 years.
pron sellers

The culprits admitted that they knew hawking Pornographic materials is prohibited in any part of the state. 18-year-old Obodoe said he knew the act was outlawed in the state but resorted to hawking P0*nographic materials to eke out a living.

He however pleaded for mercy and promised not to violate the law again.

According to the Taskforce Chairman, Bayo Sulaiman, there had been complaints by residents of the resurgence of Pornographic materials on the streets of Lagos, and so the taskforce took action on the complaints.

He reiterated that the government has banned the selling or distribution of such materials because of the negative influence they have on children, and therefore warned that anyone caught in the act will face the wrath of the law.

They will sell to anyone. Maybe even 10 year olds. This is about selling porn in public, with no controls in place

lol....will you pay more takes to provide shops for the hawkers?

How do you define shops? Having a wooden stall? Having a shade or a building?

Personally, I see nothing wrong in them selling porn, it's not like porn is an evil thing, its our ways of life (well for most). The govt is overreaching its authority, very soon, we will be like CA where the govt determines everything for the citizens, who does what.

What makes you believe that a 10 year old aren't already accessing it through other means? Was it not few days ago, here on NL that a 5year was giving oral to her classmate? Although not in Nigeria but classic example

Misplacement of priority and indecent move by Lagos Task force. They should rather start from closing down the brothel houses in Lagos. Ikeja is the capital of pornographic activities in Lagos. Ikeja has the highest number of brothel houses in Lagos and they are all conspicuously sited.

This news does not even add up. The alleged culprits here might not even be selling hardcore porns, the real culprits are out there. May be Lagos state should start censoring Internet and some of the insipid home videos. As long as Internet is not censored porn videos will still be sold in the public, after all sex sell faster than food in this jet age

Billyonaire: Is Lagos now a Sharia State ? We all love sex and we do it daily, what is wrong with selling those erotic mags ?
selling it in the open is wrong,it corrupts the minds of kids-even in America you are not allowed to showcase indecency in public-it affects some people's sensitivity.get a shop and seel whatever you like in private.
Re: Lagos Taskforce Arrests Sellers Of Pornographic Materials. by Rastamann: 1:46pm On Feb 07, 2013
They should warn them and let them go. Are they not better than pick-pocks, thiefs and armed robbers? What about prostitutes? They should leave the innocent youths alone and the government should provide better employment to this people. Person still N23Billion and fined N750,000 and you no fit do anything na these innocent youths una go come dey flex muscle with.

It's not even just about the sale, it's the display of these materials.

VCDs with explicit pictures on the sleeves are placed beside newspapers on tables by the roadside. At 3 o'clock primary and secondary school kids gather beside these tables to stare at the obscene pictures.

Even nairaland, as crazy as it is, has a word sensor.
