THE Nigerian Army Engineers (NAE), last week, witnessed a change of command as new Corps Commander; Major General Funsho Owonibi took over from the former commander, Major General Adebayo Olaniyi.

At the handing and taking over ceremony, held at the headquarters, Nigerian Army Engineers, Bonny cantonment, Victoria Island, Lagos, Gen. Owonibi said the change in the leadership of the Nigerian Army Engineers came at a most auspicious time in the history of the country and the Armed Forces.

According to him, the country has been bedeviled with a new security threat - non-traditional security threats, in the form of insurgency and terrorism.

He said that it is the visions of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Azubike O. Ihejirika to build an Army better able to meet contemporary challenges and consolidate on the competencies of the Nigerian Army Engineers through realistic training and strict adherence to best practices in order to position the corps to support the Nigerian Army in meeting its contemporary challenges

Apparently you do not know much about the army, the guy can never be the COAS, that is reserved for infantry and artillery, sometimes armour corp. he is not meant to be loyal to the COAS, his loyalty is to Nigeria and his Commander in chief.

False! while it might hav been somewhat traditional, Gen Alexander Ogomudia was from Engineering Corps.

Maybe an exception, check out from day one which arm has always had the coas.

The COAS must really be doing something good. I think it was started under the OBJ Regime though, and continued under the current regime.

I'm sure if the reverse was the case - the COAS was your tribe and the Army Engineer was Igbo, I'm sure you will not hold your same thoughts like I highlighted. When you see the truth, SAY IT. It's the truth that shall set you free.
