It also marks the beginning of lent and the beginning of the christian fasting of 40 days. It is a mourning period for the catholics. Happy ash wednesday as we go into the lenting period.

Lent, the period of fasting, penitence and self denial traditionally observed by christians in preparation for easter.

For me, I think the greatest test of this Lenten season is tomorrow which happens to be valentine‘s day.

U said it all. But it is also a period of going back to our root and re-uniting with God.

Through out the old testament when the Israelites acknowledged their sins against God, in an act of penitence, they will rub ash on their head, wear sac clothes and fast. That is the significance of ash Wednesday in the OHCA (one holy catholic and apostolic) Church. Its also reminds us that we came from dust and we will return to dust, and that is why before the ash is rubbed on your fore head, he either say's 'repent and believe in the Gospel' or 'Dust to dust, ashes to ashes'
