Good evening,

Are you a parent or you intend to be sometime in the future? If you are or you do then it would interest you to know that bringing up your kids in the way Christ wants you to is a task that you MUST fulfill diligently. A number of parents get it wrong from the word go. I see a lot of comments here on nairaland that makes one stop 'dead' in his tracks cause when you think about it, you can't stop but ask whether this individual came from a Christian home.

The problems we face as a nation starts from the family. If the family unit is bad, we can't help but have a bad society. So many Christian parents shirk from their responsibilities. Christian parents owe it to their children to bring them up in the right way, the godly way! Bringing up your children in the godly way does not in anyway imply unnecessary strictness. It does not mean that you must beat the child in order to get the child on the right path.

The only thing we need in bringing up a child in the Christian way is LOVE! Show love to the child and when the child grows up, he would know what it means when you say: God loves you! As a Christian do not allow your child to learn some important truths from outside the home. Let that truth come from you first before the child gets this from outside. Be open and win the trust of your child such that when he or she happens to get something from outside the home, you would be his or her first confidant.

A number of us Christians are afraid of some disturbing questions our children might want to ask about God. Do not waive this off as NOTHING! Children have an active mind. If you don't tell them the truth, they will get it from somewhere else and the version they might get would most likely be distorted. Teach your children to be good because it is right and not because of the fear of hell.
