Contrary to the widely held notions in the polity that to deliver a baby in the United States, a pregnant woman has to conceal her pregnancy during her visa interview and while entering the US, or she has to travel before her pregnancy starts to show, the US Embassy has clarified that it is okay to decide to have a baby in the country. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/us-embassy-outlines-condition-for-baby-delivery-in-america/139574/

The applicant has to show proof of available funds of at least $140,000 (about N22 million) to pay medical fees, and secondly, the applicant has to show proof of the need for medical attention in the US such as high risk pregnancy and the likes. So American can lie too 8 Likes |

Clerverly: $60k is way too high. Delivery is hovering around $15k to $21k depending on your state and of course household income. Unforeseen complications can take the bill to any figure. 3 Likes |

Public Affairs Officer of the Embassy, Ms. Debra MacLean reiterated that the visa is not a guarantee that an applicant would enter the US. So in case a lady who claims to be going on a visit and was issued a visiting visa and on arrival at a US airport and the scanning machine reveals she is pregnant, she will be refused entry.Wonderful! |

Nigerians that came to the states to give birth thinks they can manipulate the law, right? You may escaoe it now but your children will bear the burden provided they obtained a birth certificate and a social security before jetting back to Nigeria. Unknowingly to the parents, the bills are pilling up, such kids maybe denied financial aids, credit card or any form of assistance untill their debt has been paid off in full. This law has long been passed, you may laugh now but your kids will cry later. |

I think why people do this is just to show off. We Nigerians really need God's intervention. Why spend so much to give birth to a child. Some don't even have a land nor a house to make sure that baby's shelter is guaranteed. A lot of people I know who do these things are tenants and they work for people. Instead of investing in your childrens future you are showing off. We have very good hospitals here that can do these things. 4 Likes |

The guy lied. It does not cost that much to deliver in the States. I have sent not less than 10 patients to deliver in Texas. Normal delivery cost around $3000 to $5000. Additional services are charged. Epidural is additional $1500.Non of my patients has spent upto $10000. I don't know where he got the $140000 from. 3 Likes 1 Share |

@coogar it is you who did not read the op very well. The US official says delivery cost at least $60,000 and you must show proof of having the money. $60,000 is not the least; that's a blatant lie from a government official I have friends and colleagues who gave birth legally in the US (based on medical referral) and they did not spend even $20,000! May be the officials believed that by exaggerating the bills potential foreign Mothers will be discourage. 7 Likes |
