Redman44: Many Nigerians won't return home from the UK because of the fear of being tagged failures by a good number of Nigerians ( In Nigeria ) who are very materialistic in their thinking and lifestyle. People feel you're successful once you can build one or two houses in Nigeria before returning home. These people who would tag you as a failure are the same set of people who have benefited from the money you sent home over the years, before you decided to return to Nigeria. Many Nigerians have a warped mentality . Instead of them to reason with you and assist you to get your business idea running in Nigeria, most them will be laughing at you, backbiting about your 'failure' or will even try to cheat you out of your hard earned money. How many Nigerians in Nigerians are really living a better life than those in the UK? It is in Nigeria that you see people driving jeeps and yet they don't have up to 20,000 Naira in their bank account. Why is it so hard for people to live simply and within their means in Nigeria? This is why Nigerians in the UK secretly enter Nigeria and return to Britain secretly these days because of the materialistic tendencies and unrealistic expectations of many Nigerians in our dear country. Good points. |

Patriotism aside, the vast majority of Nigerians are common hustlers. Too few Nigerians enjoy the concept of 'success' as it is defined in the West. Though it has improved slightly in the last couple of years. But generally life, as we experience it down here, is shitty for the vast majority. To some extent that is down to what we value as a people. 3 Likes |

i don't like not working on statistics , if there are no then we would know. well different people with different problem there are some calling, while some are coming for opportunity. i know of someone with a Master in UK and job experiences both home and abroad came to naija , to look for job, could not find any for more than a yr , he wrote proposal to start a biz no financial support from any , after few months he changed him mind and left for UK, a month after got a job with recognised firm in UK and started his life back living average with his family. there might be opportunities but it might take time to come by. if you are a graduate in UK and have your papers you will definitely get something that will keep you going than a graduate in naija with nothing. 2 Likes |

murtalaa: Life is short, success favors the adventurous. Would encourage any young, ambitious, bushiness minded Nigerian to give Nigeria a try - if they have the opportunity. People interested shouldn't let the negative views discourage them'. Besides most of these posters arnt Nigerians while some are activist with political agenda. |

Redman44: How many British-born Nigerians are actually moving back to Nigeria? We need facts and hard figures on this forum. The post only talked about 4 people who decided to go and try their luck in Nigeria. And from what I grasped from the stroy, the four of them still want to come and spend their summers in the UK . I know 2 brothers who were born in the UK and attended the same Secondary school in Nigeria with me. They moved to the UK in the late 90's while I moved to Britain in 2007. One of them is back in Nigeria and has been staying there for close to 2 years now. What I am trying to say is British-born Nigerians know they have the freedom of movement due to their British Passports. A good number of them also hold Nigerian Passports, which they use to travel back to Nigeria without the need to apply for visas. We can't compare them to Nigerians in the UK who are Students, Work Permit holders, overstayers or downright illegal immigrants. These are the set of Nigerians who remain in Britain because they want to achieve something before returning home. Yes, hard number not anecdotes. How many are going back? ten thousand every year? One irrefutable fact: For every one returning, lots more are applying everyday for U.K.visas. This article will only generates the usual Naija vs. abroad yabbis; nothing more. By tomorrow everyone retreats to their bunkers and keep hustling for dollars, pounds, francs or Naira So many funny comments to read. Do Gambians, Ghanaians,or Egyptian have this kind of arguments? or is this a uniquely Naija thing |

AjanleKoko: Patriotism aside, the vast majority of Nigerians are common hustlers. Typical Nigerian definition of sucess is be very very rich,am talking the kind of rich where your Great great grandkids cannot finish the inheritance. If you dont have money forget whatever research you are conducting that might be a cure for Cancer in 10 years.Even our Academics want to Hammer .Me sef am guilty when i go to Nigeria and i see my friends whose husbands are ordinary special assistant(not adviser o) to governors balling with nannies, drivers, cooks and like 10 domestic staff and i am my own nanny and driver i think to myself chei see life . Britain is too socialist for a typical typical Nigerian. No one send you. |

babaskool: That means nothing, people give prices, that doesn't mean that that plot of land worth millions. In Nigeria out value system is so wrong, we know how to quote figures even when the item is worthless. |
