Five times today the engine of my car died while driving on the road. All 5 times happened at slow speeds. Once going slowly crossing a railroad rails,twice while slowing down in a traffic and twice going over speed bumps. There is no problem with the battery.
When the engine shut off, all the lights on the dash light up, and the steering wheel locked. Even though igniting the car again wasn't a problem,it start without hesitation. its a crappy feeling to have your engine die in the middle of the road.
It just happens suddenly. The car wasn't choking or anything, the RPM needle just simply drops and engine is off with all the lights on.
Has anyone experienced this and what was the problem?
Engine light didn't come up.

Search for vacuum leak on YouTube.That is your problem

Since engine light didn't come up there may not be a stored value to decode.

When did we do a full tune up on this vehicles last?

As applicable

Coils
Spark plugs
Spark plug wires
Air filter
Fuel filter

nissparts: I can assure you that instead of guessing, a diagnostic scan would point you in the right direction.

I did the scan and the error codes are P0155 and P0141. Am using INNOVA 3030 and you have to understand that this reader can only come up with generic code not the manufacturer specific code. These two codes has something to do with Oxygen sensors, upstream and downstream of catalyst. The poosible causes are somehow technical, now i need a competent mechanic to assist me with this, i don't have the necessary tools to do FIY.

Nice one Sultaan, that could actually be the problem, lots of videos on youtube that explain it, Vacuum leaks cannot be detected by any code reader. I will try check that out with my mechanic right away.

Im experiencing the same problem too on my honda accord 1996.The engine has been serviced, air and fuel filter changed. The car was due for service anyway, but the problem persist, it happens only on low speed when the car is about to come to complete stop.

Base on my research so far there are few things that could cause this, Air/fuel control(this might have to do with oxygen sensors sometimes), timing belt issues (loose or slag), Vacuum leak.
If your vehicle is giving a whistling sound you might want to start with the vacuum leak check and as Sultaan mentioned earlier you can go to youtube and see how to perform vacuum leak test.

If your vehicle is also having a poor gas millage and probably emitting smoke, you should check your oxygen sensors.

I use an audi a6 2000 model. It happened to me inshort its a very dangerous tin on d high way.
This was how I resolved it.
I don't believe in computer solutions so I got a wire and tied up the accelator to keep it @ 2rpm and the problem stopped. When I find time I would properly fix it. But its majorly a throtle system problem. Adjustment or replacement will do

Have a similar issue with my 1995 mazda 626. Exactly the way you described yours. The gas mileage is of course extremely poor. Nothing like check engine light on the dash board. I have since abandoned the car till I can get the right mechanic to fix it considering the danger it poses on the highway. I will appreciate if a mazda specialist can be of help here

Check all the black hoses in the engine and make sure none is disconnected,crack or loose.

Here is an idea of how it works.

When your engine is running the MAF measures how much air is getting into your engine and cmp adds right amount of fuel.
Let assume your car does 10 part air to 1 part fuel so it 10:1, when you slow down to point where you need very little air your engine wont get any because most had leaked out and when you need more air the amount that didnot leak out is enough to keep engine running.
