ojesymsym:first of all u need to know if ur webcam is working on ubuntu , * some webcams dont work and u would need to install the driver , install cheese , it is in synaptics , just open synatics and search for cheese , its an awesome app for taking pictures and video shots with ur webcam , if cheese works then ur webcam is ok , if it doesnt , it would give u an error msg, let me know and pls post the system i.e lappy and if possible the type of webcam , back to ur quetsion , kopete is a good msger client that supports webcam . , search synatics for it u should also search for and install jasper and libjasper *Synaptic is ur tool for installing ,upgrading, and removing packages on ubuntu , and it can be found in the top panel under System/Administration |

bigrovar:Bros, I know how to install those in synaptics but wat i want to know is how to install programs that I download independently of synaptics. |

u can do that try going to www.getdeb.net there u can download individual packages to install , however u have to learn to use synaptics cus its the way ubuntu was built , and it sure makes thing easy especially when u have a program that has dependencies , it would install them for u , so my friend get used to synaptics , it would say u from having to jump from one site to the other looking for downloads , |
