Its a valid point. I use a bb @1400 monthly so its not too bad. Why not start from data bundles @ 500 per gb? Most people with smartphones just play games and take pixes. Such a waste. Its probably this our naija mentality about making common things abroad exclusive here. Simple economics shd tell them lower prices=higher patronage=quicker turnovers=higher profits.

When you read some of the replies on here, you will find out exactly what is wrong with this country. Just cos some twats have the money to buy some second hand Blackberry phones, they think the prices of data bundles should not be reduced.

The ironic thing is that these same wankers will go about complaining about the government. Honestly, why do you guys think the government should stop feeding fat from our national resources? They just like you idiots are feeding fat and do not care about others. If that bundle prices are cool with you cos you are benefiting from it, then it is cool if we get ripped off by our government officials as well.

You have blackberry and think it is the end of the world? The same useless thing you are carrying about is been given out for free as part of mobile contracts in western countries.

For £100, you get a phone of your choice, unlimited data bundle, as much as 300 free minutes, 100 free international Sms among others yet cos you idiots have got a fairly used phone, you think it is the end of the world?

When visafone charges 10k for 10GB ( now 13GB ) for something the likes of verison, AT and T charge less than 3k for and we not allowed to complain, then you know there is a problem.

Mobsync: Funny Nigerians, always wanting the best for less. Greedy people. Pay quality money to get quality service. Imagine a network giving u free mb, free mb u can't use in ur house due 2 poor service. I laugh when I see students climb in trees to use their free mb 2 browse....lol#

man must wack
Seriously? Mtn is a big company by any standard, if verison and so many other companies can give out good quality service for less than 1/3 of what MTN is giving, why can't MTN do same? And please don't get me started on the so called power issue.

The same mtn is in Ghana where there is no power issue and do not declare as much profit after tax in Ghana as they do here.

And don't mention population, India has more population than us and their network providers don't make half as much as mtn declares as profit.

Some of you people here, your parents should have invested the money used to send you to school on cocaine. They may end up with cancer but seriously, what is more cancerous than an educated illitrate?

Did you read the thread before posting this rubbish? People are complaining about the pricing scam and you have the impetus to post your so called cheap mtn internet rubbish here?

10GB for 16k? That is 10GB for 100 dollars? Is that what is obtainable elsewhere? What exactly have you added to this thread other than shoving in our faces your overpriced and possibly very slow good for nothing service?

Disgraceful scumbag.

At present, people who can afford blackberry mobile device are given larger data bundle while other mobile users and PC users are given less than half data bundle for the same amount.

This treatment to people who can not afford blackberry mobile device is so unfair and should be discontinued.
@OP with due respect, you and many like you obviously dont know enough about how internet works- APN, servers, proxy and all.. RIM has made the environment easy for BB users through various ISPs. Do more reading please and u might get the reason behind the complacency in NCC's quiescence on the data issue.

I wish to use this medium to call on The Nigerian Communications Commision to as a matter of urgency look into this issue of data subscription disparity.

First, it is worthy of note, the effort of The NCC in seeing that Nierians get good value for every kobo spent on network providers. With the likes of regulation of SMS cost to a flat rate of N4 per unit SMS, as well as other meaningful regulations.

Like wise it would be a very very commendable effort if the NCC can regulate and make uniform to a reasonable amount the cost of data bundle subscription across the board of internet user and subscribers.

At present, people who can afford blackberry mobile device are given larger data bundle while other mobile users and PC users are given less than half data bundle for the same amount.

This treatment to people who can not afford blackberry mobile device is so unfair and should be discontinued.

Nigerians deserve a better treatment.

Besides, if the internet data bundle price is reviewed downwards, the economic benefits are so numerous as more Nigerians would become internet users and the opportunities that comes with that would be to the benefit of all.

Nigerians would remain appreciative if the NCC handel this matter with the urgency it requires.

Kabir

I have been monitoring closely the events in the telecommunications sector as the most touted successful privatization exercise in the country.

As the euphoria of telephony and mobile internet grew louder, unscrupulous business strategies from the service providers never grew unnoticed, from per minute billing to expensive sim cards to imported recharge cards to poor network quality, hidden charges, dubious promos etc

the NCC on their own part just like any other failed govt agency has done little or nothing to save Nigerians from the hands of these oligarchs.

Had competition not played a fundamental economic role in the telecommunication market, i doubt if we will be singing this same song of success.

Today, the dubious business attitude has taken a new dimension but as expected, NCC in their usual nonchalance has been blinded by the most obvious.

i could remember vividly, when 2g was rolled out in the middle of last decade, MTN sold sendo phones with customized mtn sim cards while Glo was busy with their Alcatel phones.
the big question is this;

if sendo mtn users then were making calls cheaper than other phone users simply because MTN and glo have retail rights to those sendo and Alcatel phones, would it be right?

unfortunately, that same question still applies to our present day Blackberry vs other phone users on the 3/3.5g network.

MTN,GLO and Airtel all have retail rights to blackberry phones which is not out of the ordinary but what should baffle any discerning mind is;

why is there disparity in internet bundle on 3g networks? A 1,500 naira bundle will get almost 3gig of data monthly with MTN blackberry while other phones get as little as 250mb monthly for 1,300naira, some network providers push it to unlimited bundles for their retail phone makes and NCC is mute about this? suffice to say that this discrepancy was borne out of the need for consumers to patronize their retail phones.

i believe the 3g license must have come with terms and conditions, no doubt discrepancies in bundle tariff as it favors network retailed phones was not one of it.

should NCC not take this up with network providers?

how would we feel if sendo users during the 2g era were making cheaper calls than our favorite 2g Nokia and sony ericsson phones back in the days, all in a bid to coerce subscribers to pick up their retail brands?

Cosmopolice:

Common sharrap u wan spoil market for us way dey use 3G bis. If u save d amount u have been using to buy data bundle for what ever smart device u are using
u should be able to get a blackberry device with 3G. Serzly u should have excluded the bis part except u are too greedy with the blackberry you usem dats if its 3G enabled.
Why can't you reason positively. If NCC directs that all rates should be at the same lower price for BB, does it mean they spoil market for you.Your inability to reason before responding to posts reveals your selfishness.

I just called that number and the guy (Uche) that attended to me says I should contact my service provider, when I complained of the disparity between BB and non BB subscription. He said all they do there is to forward complains like inability to recharge, unable to use servicescsubscribed etc. So, who will deliver Nigerians for the high internet subscription from our telecoms providers?
