Lagos Bomb Blast: Police Arrest Prime Suspect 9 Others Named by thaoriginator: 8:00am On Feb 22, 2013
By CHRISTOPHER OJI
The principal suspect who masterminded the
explosion that rocked Lagos on Monday morning
has allegedly confessed to the crime. The suspect
simply identified as William was said to have
named nine other accomplices. Police sources at
the Area E Command, FESTAC, where the suspect
was cooling his heels, said the man was fingered
because he distorted some evidence at the
explosion scene.
Chairman of he Sand Dealers Association, Amuwo
Odofin, FESTAC Link Road Chief Pius Oladele was
on Monday morning killed by an explosion. He
was blown into pieces following the blast. The
bomb device was planted directly where he was
sitting under the FESTAC/Amuwo link bridge. A
police officer, an inspector, described as a friend,
who was with him at the time was seriously
injured. A source told Daily Sun that the man had
been talking to the police on how he and other
eight persons planned the elimination of his boss.
The police source did not reveal the reason the
chairman of the sand dealer association was
murdered but an unconfirmed report said the
killing might not be far from the fact that some
people wanted to take over the leadership of the
association. A sand dealer, who simply identified
himself as Wasiu, had earlier told Daily Sun that
“Oladele had been the chairman for over a
decade, people see him as life chairman and you
know there is a lot of money involved in the
business.” He was killed two weeks after buying a
Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV). When contacted, the
state Commissioner of Police (CP), Umar Manko
said it was true that a man was being held in
connection with the explosion. “But we cannot
just conclude that he was responsible. We are still
investigating. Once we conclude our investigation
we will let you know.”
