2015 ELECTION: From The Presidency by Ayantoyeopeyem(f): 10:27am On Feb 24, 2013
2015 ELECTION: FROM THE PRESIDENCY.
The attempts to draw the hand clock forward and forcing the president to declared his interest in the 2015 presidential election when he has just finished less than 50% of his tenure has irked the Presidency.
In that line, they have resolved to lay to rest the controversy and addressed the issue head-on, as below;-
"We wish to state categorically that this is neither the time nor the season to begin electioneering campaign or related discourse for the 2015 presidential elections and so, President Goodluck Jonathan will not jump the gun.
Mr. President will therefore stoutly resist any disguised or open attempt to drag him into any debates, arguments or political discussions relating to a presidential election in 2015”.
For now, President Jonathan has not declareda second term ambition and we must not be speculating based on those who are benefiting from the campaign. I think we are all gentlemen enough; so when the time comes, we will all come together and see what is the right thing to do” - The Presidency.
NOTE: For the 2011 Presidential election in Nigeria, interim President, Jonathan Goodluck declared his interest to vie for the Presidency on Saturday, September 18, 2010 (about 6 months to the Election, because of the heated PDP primaries).
On his part, former Nigerian military ruler, MajGen. Muhammadu Buhari declared his intention to run for the same position on Thursday, 9th December, 2011 (about 3 months to the Election, as CPC had no primaries).
From Every Indication, President Jonathan hasover two years in his current term and anyone demanding that he should declare hisinterest or otherwise now, is not doing that in the interest of Nigerians.
To quell these abysmal demand on the President to declare his interest, it will be good for those that are clamouring or have interest to occupy the seat in Aso Rock, to go ahead and announce their aspiration and allow the president the freedom to do the same when he feel that it is right to do likewise.
As storm of the 2015 Presidential election is thickening day-by-day, and the confusion it is generating becoming monument, we therefore ask the interest groups to kick-startthe Campaign, if that is the only recipe for peace
