for some of those countries listed at top the gap between richest and poorest is far wider than the same measure of margin for nigeria. if you want an accurate. perspective on the countries perform bring us their poorest.

wth? Even Ghana is shitting on Nigeria. Now this is where I have problems with those agencies that keep telling us Nigeria will be amongst top 20 economies in the world by 2020 or 2050. Really funny from this statistics.

Ghana's economy would never become a top 20 before Nigeria all things being equal. They are on par with Lagos state and not the entire Nigeria. They have few citizens, this is why they can afford to be generating less than 2000MW and still have 24hr power supply.

I prefer to look at the Gini coefficient when considering economic figures. GDP per capita calculations don't take income disparities into account.

Look at Equitorial Guinea in 48th place. Can you honestly say that the life of the average citizen of that country is better than that of a Nigerian, despite the fact that we're number 138 on the list?

Equitorial guinea, I know nothing about but that doesn't take out the fact that there are other smaller African countries out there who their citizens live better than an average Nigerian. Just because we are Nigerians doesn't give us the chance of being on top of other smaller nations in Africa. There are two standard methods of measuring the wealth of countries and how rich or poor its inhabitants are. The measure most often used is Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which represents the size of a country’s economy. A refinement of this is per-capita GDP, which is a measure of the average welfare and affluence, or poverty, of residents of a country. However, GDP and per-capita GDP are less useful when comparing economies across national boundaries – which one must do to determine the richest or poorest countries in the world – because GDP is expressed in a country’s local currency.

You're reinforcing my point. That's why GDP figures are not to be taken as a silver-bullet mechanism for measurement of economic performance. They must be weighed taking their biggest flaw into consideration (i.e. the failure to capture the disparity of income within an economy). That's where the Gini coefficient comes in.
