Must we be killed by same people we pay? What a wicked world. Always ready to waste people because of their unprofessional attitude to their work.

There is controversy in Ilupeju-Ekiti over the killing of an undergraduate of Ekiti State University, Joseph Oluwaseyi, by the police during robbery incident.

While the police authorities have said that the late Seyi was a member of the gang that raided the Bank, who was killed during the cross fire, the family insisted the deceased was innocent and was felled by a trigger-happy cops.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the State Police Command, Victor Babayemi, confirmed the story.
He said: “One of the robbers, who was shot and arrested, said he could not identify Seyi, because he was not among the team that attacked the station.
“He said that he was part of the team who attacked the bank.

“He also explained that their gang leader recruited them separately. So we do not know if he was one of the robbers or he was caught in the crossfire. But we are still investigating”.
The invasion of a new generation bank last Thursday in Oye-Ekiti, had caused commotion in the area, forcing residents to scamper to safety.
The deceased, who was said to be travelling from Ilupeju, hishome town, to Ado-Ekiti, was caught in the melee when the vehicle he was traveling in ran into robbery operation.

Unfortunately, as the driver and other occupants of vehicle ran into the nearby bush to escape the robbers’ rage, but thelate Seyi was not lucky as he was reportedly sighted by police and mistaken for robber.
The police disclosed that frantic search for a member of the gang who received a gun shots led to the arrest of late Seyi, but the eventual discovery of a wounded bandit by the policeactually changed the story.

Lending credence to Seyi‘s family’s claims, a witness, Mrs. Victoria Adewuyi, who was in the bus with the deceased, said he was innocent.
The 72-year-old Mrs Adewuyi, who corroborated Mrs Fasere’s explanation, said the deceased was not a member of the robbery gang, but a victim of circumstance, adding that she boarded the same car with Seyi before they ran into the robbery.

The deceased mother, Mrs Florence Fasere, 60, who addressed journalists, said the family was curious about the whereabouts of their son after the incident, before they confirmed his killing.
She explained that the deceased, a 400 Business Administration undergraduate, had come to Ilupeju to collect N100,000 meant for his school fees before the incident, adding that the family was further subjected to more pains when it attempted to protest his killing as some police officers gave them the beating of their lives.

She said: “It was sad and bad for the police to have caught Seyi where he was hiding, tied his hands and detained him from Thursday till Friday, before he was shot just to create the impression that they had caught a robber.
“They even spread the news into town that he was a memberof the robbery gang”.
