Written by Haruna Gimba Yaya, Kano

Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, said yesterday that the insecurity situation is not peculiar to Nigeria alone, as it has become a global issue affecting many countries.
The emir made the statement while receiving Vice President Namadi Sambo, who visited to commiserate with him over the attack on his convoy by gunmen on January 19, 2013.
The emir, who recently returned to the country from a medical trip abroad, said the insecurity situation will soon be over, and called for fervent prayers.
The 83-year-old monarch expressed appreciation to all those who have condoled with him over the incident. He particularly thanked President John Mahama of Ghana and his Benin Republic counterpart, President Boni Yayi, who visited him while in the UK.
Earlier, Vice President Namadi Sambo said he was in Kano to commiserate with the emir and people of the state over the attack, adding that the Federal Government is doing all it could to tackle the situation.
Daily Trust observed that there was a heavy security presence at all routes from the airport to the emir palace during the visit

the monarch is not far from the truth. other nations are faced with different challenges just as the nation is presently face with terrorism. it is not universal but relative. God willing, it shall come to past.

At least 37 hostages killed in Algeria gas plant standoff, prime minister says
CNN) -- At least 37 hostages died in the terrorist seizure of a natural gas facility in eastern Algeria and the subsequent special forces assaults on it, the country's prime minister said Monday.

Five other hostages are missing from the In Amenas complex and could be dead, Prime Minister Abdul Malek Sallal said.

Before Sallal's statement, officials from other countries and companies that employed foreign workers at the sprawling plant had confirmed 29 hostage deaths.

Seven of the 37 confirmed dead haven't been identified yet, according to the prime minister. Those who have been identified include seven Japanese, six Filipinos, three Americans, three Britons and one Algerian, officials from those countries said.

Some 29 militants also died, while three were captured, Sallal said, according to the state-run Algerian Press Service.
The standoff ended Saturday, after four days, when Algerian special forces stormed the complex for the second time. The government said it did so because the militants were planning to blow up the installation and flee to neighboring Mali with hostages
those killed in the rescue operations includes citizens of America, Romania, Colombia, Japan, France, Malaysia, Philipine, Norway and the United Kingdom.
