The recent call by the Sultan of Sokoto and some Northern elders for Government to grant amnesty to the Boko Haram sect still amazes vast majority of Nigerians who are totally disappointed with Northern traditional rulers based on their failure and negligence in discharging their supposed role of maintaining peace and security within their domains. no doubt many have posited in recent time[b][/b] that Northern elders and traditional rulers are fueling terrorism in the North.

In the past, traditional institutions headed by chiefs, Emirs, Ezes among others who exerted full executive, legislative and judicial powers in their different domains and exerted sovereign control over their people. they manage affairs, resolve tension and administered justice in the society. they also assist in checking the influx of illegal aliens in their domains or quickly report any breach of peace to security agencies.

They served as a link between the rural people and the government. They assist the government in political education and socialization of the rural people. They acted as the custodians of the traditional religion, arts and culture of the people. They explained the customs and tried to preserve it. Traditional rulers even initiate development projects and secure the support of both internal and external development agents for the execution of these projects.

Despite the Above highlighted perceived roles of traditional heads, the reverse has been the case prompting my inquisition of "what efforts Northern rulers and Elders have made in addressing the present menace of terror in their domain ?".

Their effort has been to sponsor the BH from the backdoor, make the polity and state ungovernable thereby leading to Gej's failure and ultimately demand for amnesty for their lazy youths. Misplaced priority. I pity them

Their best effort yet is asking the FG to pay the terrorists (amnesty) for killing innocent Nigerians.

Boko Haram mission will be completed as soon as they consume those who sent them, since their mission has become impossible. Their is no way out for the sponsors of boko haram, they either surrender or die!

actually, i think they have refused to proffer solutions to curb this ugly trend because directly or indirectly, they are benefiting from it and as such would prefer it to continue.

But the truth has to be told, Northern Leaders must put their house together and stop politicizing the boko haram issue, they should work hand in hand with the federal government to exposed and bring this evil to and end before it gets more messier.
