Yet again, about 20 people have been confirmed dead in an overnight attack on Attakar village of Ganawuri District of Riyom Local Government Council of Plateau State. The latest mayhem is coming barely two days after 35 persons were similarly killed in Wase Local Government Council area of the state following a clash between the native Taroh and Fulani herdsmen. Like in Wase, the clash in Ganawuri was between the natives and Fulani herdsmen. Plateau State House of Assembly Majority Leader, Daniel Dem, representing Riyom State Constituency, told newsmen on phone from the war-torn community that the village was overrun in the midnight by people suspected to be Fulani militia from outside the state. He believes the Fulani militia took advantage of the absence of security men to attack and burn houses in the village. He commended the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the area for his spirited effort to save some lives. Meanwhile, Management Committee Chairman of the Riyom Local Government Council, Sam Gyang Audu, disclosed to newsmen in Jos on Thursday that over 100 of his Berom kinsmen have been killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen in the last one year with properties worth millions of naira destroyed. Audu, who spoke at a press conference said so far his council had spent over N5 million to treat those injured in attacks. The council boss in company of stakeholders from his area said in view of alleged complicity of soldiers of the special military taskforce, the Federal Government should set a stage for gradual withdrawal of the men from the council area. He said in place of the soldiers, well-trained armed policemen and anti- terrorist squads should be deployed to Riyom to provide security for the people. Audu also accused men of the STF of inflicting injuries on several women in his local government council during an unannounced search exercise for arms in Rim village. In a related development, security measures have been reinforced in the Bauchi metropolis in the aftermath of the bombing of a Lagos-bound 59-seater passenger bus in the Kano Central Park on Monday by suspected terrorists. Investigations revealed that security checks have intensified at government offices, commercial banks, tertiary institutions and private companies. Also, security has been beefed up at majority of the motor parks in the state. A visit to Yankari Motor Park in the Bauchi metropolis showed that passengers were being scrutinised from the gate of the park as all private vehicles were refused entry. Also, police checkpoints have been mounted at strategic locations in the metropolis, especially entrance points into the state from Jos, Kano, Gombe and Maiduguri, as motorists were subjected to intensive checks. When contacted, state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Hassan Mohammed Auyo, said the police and other security agencies in the state did not want to take any chance, most especially with what happened in Kano recently. dailyindependentnig.com/2013/03/20-people-killed-in-fresh-jos-crisis/ |

Those terrorist won't attack parks again. They will devise another devious plan. How security agents should be a step ahead and try to anticipate next moves. |

When things fall apart, centre holds no more. Nigerian contents seem to have fallen apart with the centre no more defined. Tribute to Professor Chinua Achebe! |
