All Group Standings...african World Cup Qualifiers!!! by bingbagbo(m): 7:03pm On Mar 25, 2013

GROUP A
Ethiopia remain in control of Group A after their last-gasp win over Botswana, but South Africa have moved into second place with a 2-0 win over CAR. The crucial tie in this pool could be Bafana Bafana's trip to Addis Ababa in June. CAR are not out of it as they have home matches against the top two sides, but they may well have to play those on neutral territory.
Standings: Ethiopia 7, SA 5, CAR 3, Botswana 1

GROUP B
Tunisia are well in control of this pool with nine points from three matches and could qualify for the knockout stage in their next match if they win in Sierra Leone and Equatorial Guinea do not defeat Cape Verde. Cape Verde, surprise packages at the 2013 Nations Cup, have yet to pick up a point and are out of it.
Standings: Tunisia 9, Sierra Leone 4, Equatorial Guinea 4, Cape Verde 0

GROUP C
Ivory Coast produced a commanding 3-0 home win over Gambia and it looks as though just they and Tanzania will fight it out for top-spot in the pool. Morocco have just two points from their first three games and must still travel to Abidjan. Two of Tanzania's final three matches are away from home.
Standings: Ivory Coast 7, Tanzania 6, Morocco 2, Gambia 1

GROUP D
Zambia still top the group following their disappointing 1-1 draw in Lesotho, but that result has allowed pool favourites Ghana to close the gap to just a single point. It gives back the advantage they had gained from being awarded three points against Sudan, who fielded an ineligible player. Zambia will hope to increase that gap again when they host Lesotho and Ghana travel to Sudan in June, but they must also still travel to west Africa in September.
Standings: Zambia 7, Ghana 6, Lesotho 2, Sudan 1

GROUP E
Congo have maximum points from their three matches and should be surprise qualifiers from this pool. They will qualify for the knockout round if they defeat Gabon and Niger only draw with Burkina Faso in June. The Burkinabe are perhaps the only ones who can mount a serious challenge to them, but they must still play away in Congo in Niger.
Standings: Congo 9, Burkina Faso 3, Niger 3, Gabon 3

GROUP F
This is shaping up to be the tightest of groups with just three points separating leaders Nigeria and Kenya in fourth. The surprise draw for Kenya in Nigeria has thrown the pool wide open, with Malawi profiting the most after their win in Namibia. Malawi's trip to Nigeria in September could be the key.
Standings: Nigeria 5, Malawi 5, Namibia 3, Kenya 2

GROUP G
Egypt's slightly fortunate 2-1 win over Zimbabwe on Tuesday has put them in pole position in this pool with a full haul of nine points. Guinea are in second with just four, but the Egyptians are notoriously poor travellers for qualifiers, which is why they have not played in a World Cup since 1990. They must still go to Mozambique and Zimbabwe. The Pharaohs could advance in the next round of matches though if they defeat Zimbabwe and Guinea do not beat Mozambique.
Standings: Egypt 9, Guinea 4, Mozambique 2, Zimbabwe 1

GROUP H
Algeria, Mali and Benin are all still in contention in this pool with just two points separating the top three. Algeria's win over Benin on Tuesday was vital in elevating them to the top of the pool on goal-difference over Mali. With two home matches to come, the latter are perhaps the favourites to take it from here, though they must still travel to Algiers.
Standings: Algeria 6, Mali 6, Benin 4, Rwanda 1

GROUP I
Cameroon secured a vital 2-1 victory over Togo at the weekend, though they had the brilliance of Samuel Eto'o to thank for that. They were less than convincing otherwise. Libya have stayed with them, while DR Congo are in some disarray after coach Claude LeRoy quit following their home draw with the north Africans on Sunday. With two home games to come, Libya will be confident.
Standings: Cameroon 6, Libya 5, R Congo 4, Togo 1

GROUP J
Just two points separate senegal in first and Uganda in fourth, meaning there is all to play for in this even pool. Angola are two points off the pace, but have home matches to come against leaders senegal and second-placed Liberia, which could elevate them to front-runners. It is a tough one to all.
Standings: Senegal 5, Liberia 4, Angola 3, Uganda 2
