I just bought toyota camry 2000 model this month. This car is so pleasurable that I always feel like driving it all d time. But I noticed d car has bn draining my pocket due to expenses on fuel. I hv a groing biz in Abuja but work @ a nearby state. this new level affects my income instead of boosting it. am thinking of selling it so I can buy sienna or volkswagen sharan 4 transportation as I go 2 Kaduna from abuja at least 3 times in a week & also proceed 2 Zaria sometimes. d purpose is to carry passengers in order to cover 4 fuel & hv change 4 expenses instead of using my hard earned money frm my biz. I 'm yet 2 stablize in abj due 2 high cost of living unlike where I was coming from. Pls, I need advice frm experienced elders on vehicle issues here. God bless u.

is this ur first car? Is the car a v6? Did u buy it toks? Ur answer might solve ur problem

Its my first car, 4 plug, bought it farely used @ a very low milage, infact better than some tokumbo cars...I mean very neat as d first owner used it less than 1 yr b4 travelling. I dnt even feel like selling it again as some friends said I will soon get used 2 d new status. But really, I want d car 2 fuel its self & giv me some change. Though d car is low & wonder wt wil hapn if I carry 4 people @ d back.

thats the beauty of that car. Low clearance. It always come in 15rims. If u wanna make it high. Put in a 17rims on it. My advice dont buy what u cant maintain cuz of eyeservice!

it doesnt matter where you bought the car, what we want to know is the engine size of the car,then if any services have been done and how many mileage do you on a full tank

Thanks a lot for the response. The advice i need is 2 know whether I shd sale it & add money & buy sienna or volkswagen sharan. I dont know whether it will bring more problem as someone was saying d higher d car, d higher d problem even though I might think it will bring more income based on my movt. As per d fuel consumption of my camry, its very ok as I hv calculated d millage with full thank. d engine has never bn touched. d millage is about 118000. Infact am in luv wit d car as Im highly indecisive of disposing it cuz of economic consideratn. As per maintenance, I kno I can do that just that I need 2 recover a little wit time.

2001 Camry is a great fuel efficient car. The major problem is the low clearance. Take your car to a good mechanic. Let them place it on a ramp and check below it. The catalytic converter or some part of the exhaust pipe might have been damaged which may need replacement. Also, there may be a need to change the oxygen sensor on the manifold.
i did this to my own model just last week and the rich fuel burning stopped. From ibadan to ikeja lagos back to ibadan i usually used half a tank or 35 litres.

And mind you, i bought it with 140000miles. I now have 185000 on it now. I almost sold it last month but i decided to keep it as a second car while expecting my GX470.

abnormal is what sense give us the details eg engines size, then how far you travel with a full tank and also your driving style can contribute to more fuel consumption, dont forget load to your car, the more load or weight the more you burn

On another occation, bought 20 ltrs & travelled to d same destinatiion (110 km) to & fro b4 d fuel indicator light came up. This is abj -kd express way that is double lane & smooth. Though I hv done some work on d exhaust pipe this afternoon, filled up 2 half tank capacity & monitoring.

King777, if you really want the help of the gurus here, u have to give them hard facts. next time u refill ur tank, reset your trip meter. Set it to zero. After a few hundred kilometers/ miles, refill ur tank and calculate how much fuel u have used so far. use that figure to calculate ur kilometers per liter or miles per gallon and then post to the house. U can actually post all the details here. Sometimes, people assume their cars are thirsty when in actual fact, nothing is wrong with their cars. Please check and confirms that ur odometer is in kilometers and not in miles. Most american used cars use miles instead of kilometers. Cheers.

thats sound normal to me you did 220 then the run around thats ok based on the engine size 2.2 litre dont compare your car with other cars without knowing the engine size especially if you are comparing an american model and european

europeans engines are small in capacity

what you need is to find the user manual of your car and see the MPG from the manufacture then we work from there as for now i think its sounds average

Thanks a lot. d odometer reads in miles & by d calculatn I learnt here, am probably getting d same or close to 29 miles per gallon on highway & 26 miles/ gallon within cities. though not sure as d car is just 3 weeks.
