The Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun
Mimiko, has launched the state’s
residency card, otherwise known as ‘Kaadi
Igbe Ayo’, which means residence of joy.
Addressing the
gathering at
the occasion
held at the
Gani Fawehinmi
Freedom
Square in
Akure, the
state capital,
Governor
Mimiko emphasised that the card was
introduced to deepen the welfare benefit to
the residents and also facilitate the
sustainability of government infrastructure.
The governor debunked the rumour that the
card had gulped billions of Naira, saying only
N900 million was spent on the project.
Commending the initiative, the Minister of
Information, Mr. Labaran Maku said
Governor Mimiko is solidifying on the kind of
politics rooted in social democracy that
emphasises human capital development, as
laid down by the late Chief Obafemi
Awolowo.
The residency card is a state wide, dynamic,
chip-based multipurpose transaction card.
The goal is to ensure strategic planning and
efficient record keeping, monitoring of
human resources in the public sector,
qualitative service delivery in key sectors
such as health, education, transportation
and agriculture.

This card is a waste of public funds.900 million could have done a lot to impact directly on the lives of the masses.
The card will only be effective during the tunure of Mimiko. In a country bedevilled by policy somersaults, white elephant projects like this will only live as long as their originators remain in power.
You don't have to be a professor to be lead a state. You only need common sense.

Residency card my friend can not solve the issue of satellite picture. it is because some of you , did not live abroad.. if you lived abroad, residency card is not the solution to the problem.. you have to remove a portion of nigeria.

This is how they loot money in Nigeria by awarding bogus contracts.

Waste of taxpayers money and I'm surprised there are some people actually congratulating them on this. If this was GEJ work, the same set would have said something completely different. SMH. Well if they happy that their governor is wasting their money reckless, who are the rest of us to talk. Carry on

I would like to believe the card holders wil pay for the card directly or indirectly. Potential benefits are

it can serve as ID e.g motorist committing traffic offence can produce it as an alternative to "arresting " their vehicle
Can be used for tax payment and contain all tax records
Use for child access to school and other social services
Access to health care etc.
It can be linked to phone numbers at point of issue which would be invaluable for security purposes.
Potentially could be used for voting though( might be controversial).
It will enable government to collect data on the profiles of who is using/demanding what service.
The potential is immense really

Odenigbo Aroli:

There are other states that has embarked on the exercise before Ondo.
That is good too hopefully it can cover the whole country and help us fight Boko Haram.
Anyway Ondo and those other states need to realize it is not issuuing the card that is the end but what they use them to deliver to the people. It would be nice to know what it cost in other states.I know Fashola said Lagos would do it this year ,we sre waiting
