The Crusades initiated by Pope Urban II in 1095 AD, was a retaliation for the Muslim slaughter of 7000 Christian pilgrims who tried to peacefully visit Jerusalem in 1065 AD. Of course they could also be considered a 450 year delayed retaliation for the Muslim slaughter of almost 100% of the Christians from Alexandria throughIsrael to Asia. All of Europe would be Muslim today had Charles "The Hammer" Martel (grandfather of Charlemagne) not halted the slaughter of Christians in 732 AD begun by Muhammad himself 100 years earlier. "Charles's victory has often been regarded as decisive for world history, since it preserved western Europe from Muslim conquest and Islamization." (Britannica) Christians had turned the other cheek for 450 years of Islamic genocide against Christians. Today, Islamic Imperialism continues to spread with the murder all the Christians within their power to execute Pope Urban II does not escape our criticism however. He lowered the high bar of Christianity to the low moral level of Islam. Echoing Satan's instructions to Muhammad, the Pope spoke where God was silent by promising the Christian soldiers that they would go straight to heaven if they died in the Crusades. He also cloned the Muslim slogan of "As Allahwills, with one of his own: "Deus Vult" (God wills it). While the Muslim slaughter of Christians is plainly mandated by the Koran and Muhammad as "Islam par excellence", Jesus outright forbade the murder of Muslims, for simply being Muslims. Yet it is important to keep in mind that the Crusades were not offensive actions, but provocated defensive actions. After the slaughter of 7000 unarmed pilgrims at Jerusalem, the Pope decided to send another group of"pilgrims" whose innocent intent was the same as the first: visit Jerusalem. But these pilgrims were also armed soldiers who, unlike the first 7000, were capable of defending themselves when the Muslims attacked them. While the Crusades where a provocative but passiveincursion into Muslim controlled lands, noMuslim blood would have been shed, had they merely let the Crusaders pray in Jerusalem and leave in peace. Unfortunately, when the Muslims did attack, the Crusaders went too far by slaughtering everything in their path, including both Muslims and Jews. Are you saying that the crusades were justified? If they were then how can you complain about the Islamic jihads. Both are pretty much a scourge upon humanity. Why cant God fight for himself and protect his people? It is obvious that these two religions are fighting for other causes and not God. |

There is no doubt in my mind that compared to the crusaders the Jihadists were saints, for they showed more humanity than the so called soldiers of Christ. The crusaders were some of the most vile, ruthless and barbaric creatures known to man. Nothing can justify their murderous and demonic rage in the shedding of innocent blood including women and children. To suggest that they were defending Jerusalem is a laugh, how many did they succeed in converting to their faith? |

Well if not for the crusaders frosbel would have been doing Allahu Akbar by now.I am sure he would have ended up as a suicide bomber with his maverick spirit. |

The jihads have been pretty bloody too. Check out Tamerlane to get an idea of how bloody these things can get. |

The crusaders did more to hamper Christianity than to halt Islams growth. Where were the Crusaders when the Ottomans conquered Constantinople? Oh yeah.... squabbling amiongst themselves as usual, what about Jerusalem? Same thing. |

Atheist:-D:constantinople was a fortified city the seat of an empire, if anything constantinople should have been protecting others not the other way round. In Jerusalem the 1st crusade did halt the ottaman advance. But ofcourse in those days it would be impossible for d western soldier to totally hold jerusalem since the ottaman empire was closer to jerusalem than the west. This caused a military disadvantage thus neccesitating more crusades. |

Atheist:-D:i'll ask you to hold that thought, the muhamedans had a practice of occupying conquered states, a military skill the crusaders lacked. Both armies killed much but i don't think i will make a statement like the above. |

Ubenedictus: constantinople was a fortified city the seat of an empire, if anything constantinople should have been protecting others not the other way round. The Byzantine empire was holding its own and also repelled 2 major Islamic attempts at conquest. It however suffered a catastrophic defeat at Manzikert followed by a civil war. The Seljuk Turks took advantage to invade Anatolia. The Byzantine Empire was just restoring itself after the calamities and had even gained some good territory. WHat Alexios Comnenus (Byzantine Emperor) needed was Western European knights to bolster his army, not a massive crusading movement that would bring chaos to the region and isolate the Christians. |
