@OP if you're the coder, then work with the language |

ciphoenix: @OP if you're the coder, then work with the language you're comfortable with Guys, please stop saying that. It's like someone asking "Which mode of transportation is best when traveling from Abuja to London" and you replying "Whichever mode you are comfortable with." The guy might think: "Yay! Then I'm going to go by road on my bicycle since I feel so comfortable riding it." See? Your reply could have saved a humble life! 2 Likes |

I am asking for the mode of transportation not the type of car as you insinuated. The only important idea somebody gave on this thread has been hidden by the mod. He suggested WinDev. I have been reading a lot about WinDev and it sounds a bit interesting but the french thing and the very small community discouraged me. I am coming from a procedural/modular programming background. I also learn very fast so I wanted a language I can learn quickly to develop the app. I was misled some time ago to learn Python, as some persons on this forum suggested it could be for desktop app development. After several weeks of engaging python, I discover it lacks security because you code can easily be accessed by any one using the desktop application. I am at the moment considering VB.Net. |

windev happens to not be a language. |
Re: Which Programming Language Is Best For Building An Hospital Management Software by nairawall: 2:22pm On Mar 29, 2013 |
ciphoenix:windev happens to not be a language. WinDev: from my research, I discovered the WinDev development suite uses the w-lang which is a fifth generation programming language. I also like the fact that you can quickly also use the skills acquired here for mobile applications. Concerning Python, I think it is best suited for websites as your codes will be hidden on a server. Using python for a desktop app will mean that any person can quickly copy your code. Your code is readily accessible. |

nairawall: WinDev: from my research, I discovered the WinDev development suite uses the w-lang which is a fifth generation programming language. Erhm, please let me point out that WinDev's WLanguage is actually a fourth-generation language as the programmer needs to come up with algorithms rather than constraints to accomplish a task. The WinDev team may be tickling themselves with their tool being a 5GL but my academic notes tell me otherwise. 2 Likes |

think about making it a web-based (or cloud as is the buzzword nowadays) project (especially considering how Nigeria is, electricity, security, etc) and use a MySQl db backend and i guess a php framework like codeigniter for the frontend. In 2013, dont see why anyone should be building for a strictly desktop environment especially for hospital records where the data needs to persist for years and could potentially become huuuuge. its easier for a hospital to invest in a few client systems or evn tablets, than one server that needs to be up at all times. You could also use MS Access if its just a database system, and can easily move that to the cloud using Sharepoint but im sure that will be expensive. Someone already mentioned Alpha5, ive come across it before but havent used it but ist seems quite handy too. |

Instead of creating everything from scratch why don't you try out OPENEMR its a complete medical management system and its released as an open source application. |

Re: Which Programming Language Is Best For Building An Hospital Management Software by ChinenyeN(m): 9:18pm On Feb 06, 2016 |
For a hospital management software, I can imagine two possible routes. 1. A web-based platform (similar to a web-based POS system on localhost). Benefit of this is quicker development time. HTML5, CSS, JS and whatever backend you like to use can be used to set up a full management system with relative ease. Run it on localhost (since there is little reason to have the system reach out to the Internet). The hospital IT guys/gals can then configure the hospital computers' hosts files and browsers. The disadvantage would be that hospital staff who work outside the hospital cannot directly access the information in the management system. There are ways to work around this though. 2. A desktop program (or two programs, one client-side [hospital staff can use outside the hospital] and the other server-side) probably written in Java (compile once run everywhere theory). The benefit would be the ability to leverage a VPN-type system. The only disadvantage that comes to mind could be hospital staff not following protocol when using the software, thereby jeopardizing patient privacy and confidentiality. In terms of the specific languages to use, it almost almost doesn't make any difference. |
