First check ur serial number at d about page.

^^what is d ios version, modem firmware? Also check if u av cydia installed. Better still call me on 08053250698 and make sure the fone is on while quickly ask all d questions.

Go to Settings - General - Network - Network Cellular Data under APN field input gloflat that's all.

Now launch cydia n go to manage-packages,check if ultrasn0w is installed. I'm 99.9% sure that it is. If its installed, ur fone is NOT factory unlocked.

@tumababa Yep, ultrasnow installed, guess no ios 5 for me yet. thanx for the help and info.

But i do still have a problem with browsing with my phone. if i try to connect i get an error message "could not activate cellular data network. PDP authenttication failure". i'm using glo with the apn "gloflat". any ideas pls.

^^u can still upgrade to ios 501 but not directly, kinda long thing. At d apn,make sure u av user name $passwd both av 'flat'.

^^ If your 3Gs comes with a new bootrom, then the jailbreak will be tethered on iOS 5. I suggest u wait for untethered iOS 5 before upgrading, since it seems you are new to iOS, in the main time, save your iOS 5 SHSH with TinyUmbrella.
