JOB OPENING ANNOUNCEMENT

IITA is an international non-profit research-for-development (R4D) organization created in 1967, governed by a Board of Trustees, and supported primarily by the Consultative Group of International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). Our R4D is anchored on the development needs of sub-Saharan Africa. We develop agricultural solutions with our partners to tackle hunger and poverty by reducing producer and consumer risks, enhancing crop quality and productivity, and generating wealth from agriculture. We have more than 100 internationally recruited scientists from about 35 countries and 900 nationally recruited staff based in various stations across Africa.

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture seeks suitable candidate for the position of Research Supervisor at the Institute’s Headquarters in Ibadan.

Position Duties Qualification and Experience

RESEARCH
SUPERVISOR

(AfricaRice)

(2-year renewable
Contract)


Successful candidate will:

• Characterize rice germplasm for tolerance to several stresses
• Establish and manage lowland rice breeding trials
• Inter and intra specific hybridization of rice to generate stress tolerant segregating population
• Collect, collate and analyze research data
• Collect leaf samples for DNA extraction
• Processing and distribution of seed of breeding lines to NARS and other collaborators
• General supervision of field Staff
• Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

BSc/HND in Crop Management, Agronomy or General Agriculture plus at least 3 years experience of
Research operation in a research Institution will be an added advantage.

Applicants must have interest and ability to work in multi-disciplinary and multicultural teams, must be computer literate, strong statistical skills, possess good interpersonal and communication skills.
